Happy New Week! We’re back – Son is ok. He was facing a court appearance re an allegation against him, but in the end did not have to appear and is in the clear. Not a nice experience.
Been to LG and LotL – and got new long lens for camera! More tomorrow. Thanks for all the support – so pleased to be back here with you all!!
Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!
Don't normally post on this site, but just took a chance. So glad goldfinch that the ordeal of your son is over and that nothing more will be done.
I am afraid I rose to the remarks by Forres and told him to take a running jump and not be so rude, not very Christian I know, but people like that make me mad.
We know we are priveleged to be able to watch them and as Richard said, they hope to go ahead next year, lets hope the weather doesn't intervene then but thats a long way off.
Lets savour the time we have left with these magnificent birds.

RSPB Giving Nature a Home
I do not suppose we have anyone from the south Pacific to view the total eclipse of the sun later today?
Tiger Signature
OG - Welcome back. Very glad your son's problems resolved.
Tiger - The total eclipse area could hardly pick a less populated area!!! http://eclipse.gsfc.nasa.gov/SEmono/TSE2010/TSE2010.html.
re Censuses (or are they Censi?) As a family historian I have used past census to trace Himself's ancestors. Until a few years ago Aussie census details were not kept, only the results. Then we were given the option of having the "front page" preserved for posterity. I had to laugh at one couple - he ticked yes save, while she opted for no. I wonder what their descendants will think. Will they wonder what she had to hide? LOL
Universal Laws
Law of the Theatre - At any event, the people whose seats are furthest from the aisle arrive last.
Murphy's Law of Lockers - If there are only two people in a locker room, they will have adjacent lockers.
Law of Housework - it expands to fill the time available plus half an hour. [But not in osprey-watching season. LOL]
OG: First off. Welcome home and thanks for starting new thread. Hurray, hurray that son's problem has disappeared. Brilliant news!
Hi all: Have been busy/gone since 8a.m. Went to cable store to get correct cable box (got wrong one yesterday); then to Farmers' Market, then the gym, then the library, Trader Joe's, Vons, and home to unpack and set up super-duper flat-screen telly with OH. We got take-out for dinner! Have new telly on now - also bought lightweight wireless headphones, which are great!
Anyway, just read through the Diary and disappointed (like everyone else) about the developments, but that's life. Now to catch up on posts while keeping eyes on LG and LOTL.
Lindybird: Oh dear, haven't been following the story of the gunman. I'll check the BBC website. I always wonder what went wrong with people's lives that they end up shooting themselves (and others). We had a Census this year (the hired a bunch of temporary folks and also mailed out forms), but they use the figures here to allocate Federal funds to the States for various social programs. Just fed the washer and dryer, and guess what's piling up!! :-)
Margobird: Off out on the town again I see. You're a real social butterfly!
dibnlib: That wasn't my video of the LOTL chick - must be some clever person! :-) Oh my, you mumble too? That's what I get accused of!
Djoan: Always disconcerting when that kind of violence gets that close. OMG. What little cuties those owls! Enough to bring a smile to anyone's face.
Heather: Brittany trip sounds lovely. When it comes to renovating houses it takes, time, money, and energy - and you never have all three at the same time!
Lynette: Not to worry - that fellow was a real (insert naughty word of your choice here)! I thought the responses were all right on the mark - good that bloggers could tell him where to get off 'coz you know Richard and staff have to retain a professional stance (which is what makes it all the worse).
Tiger: Where would we all be without you to remind us of all these celestial events!
AQ: Law of Lockers happened everytime I used to shower at the gym! Where are you getting all these brilliant truisms?
Take care all; World Cup final tomorrow (on new telly!); have done all the errands/shopping so can stay home tomorrow and just leave house for a nice walk if the mood takes me.
Tiger: I so wish that I could have travelled to Easter Island. I've always wanted to see the ancient stone figures there -- incredible! -- and it would have been truly wonderful to have viewed a total solar eclipse there.
In case anyone doesn't know, here's a NASA pic of the Easter Island stone statues. http://rst.gsfc.nasa.gov/Sect6/easter-island-133.jpg
Happy New Moon everyone.
Hi, all.
I'm really glad that the LG folks made the wise decision about the ringing/tagging. Back when we were all posting our initial predictions for the season, I had a lingering bad feeling about the ringing/tagging this year. I had an unscientific hunch that one of the juveniles might have the "fight or flight" urge.
Thanks for the good thoughts about my car. A very nice Wrecker Guy jump-started it, and it has been running fine since. I think that it just sat unstarted for too long. I don't get out very much. Will probably need a new battery soon, though.
OG: Welcome back, and I'm so very happy for you.
I haven't been on much, so very belated happy birthday to George G!!!
DjoanS: I loved the great pic of the owlets all lined up at the window in anticipation of a food drop. I suspect they will be fledging before too long. I can see lots of adult feathers. I was glad that the BOT confirmed that they are, indeed, getting plenty of food. I'd seen them being fed often, so I thought they were getting enough. They are cuties.
Lindybird: Loved the squirrel article.
Heather B: I'm also a "post-menopausal insomniac", and I listen to the BBC World Service nearly every night. Of course, I've always been a night owl, and throughout my life I had such difficulty adjusting to a conventional day-shift office schedule. Whenever I had time off, I always reverted back to staying up late.
Annette: So glad that you are pleased with the new TV and you were able to set it up with no problem (well done!). The new ones seem a little intimidating to me. Enjoy the World Cup!
Everyone have a nice Sunday.
Good morning original goldfinch so pleased your Son is OK but can see now that you have had an awful time over the past week. Perhaps life can get back to normal for you now. Pleased you have been to LG and LOtL and have you got photos from your visit.
Have a good day both of you.
Margobird
Good morning all and thanks for the chat. Unfortunately we did not get to see Joe Brown last evening. Pete his son got a call to say that his wife had been rushed into hospital so show was cancelled as they all had to return to London. They were almost ready to go on stage when this happened but quite understandable that his son would want to be with his wife. They are going to re-schedule the show hopefully.
Whilst congratulating myself on the success of the hearing aid and feeling really pleased that I was getting it in with no troulble I suddenly realised I had not been switching it off when removing it to go to bed, so I am not that clever. Don't think it will happen anymore though.
Have a good Sunday all and take care.
Hi, Margobird: Sorry the show was cancelled. I'm so glad that your hearing aid is working well.
Everyone: I forgot to say one thing in my earlier post.
I was looking out of my back window yesterday, and I saw something hunting about on the ground. It was the beautiful young fox!!! Apparently, he has decided to stay on this land, and maybe he'll raise a family next year. He looked up and stared right at me for a few moments, but then he went back to foraging for food. I think he's been eating apples. I'm so glad that he's staying. This sighting probably doesn't seem like a big deal to you folks in the UK, because you have a strong fox population, I think, but they are rarely seen here in my area. He's just gorgeous.
Hi Annette, I waited until Sunday to answer your mail, just in case I used the wrong forum - again :-)
Hi to you too, I also live near the Library & Cassiobury Park, on The Avenue. I've only been here for a few months, but it's a lovely place to stay & I don't think the infrastructure can have changed too much since 1963. It seems to be a very dry area though - my poor garden is crying out for rain.
Cheers, Cathie
