Weekly Chat Sunday July 11th

Happy New Week!  We’re back – Son is ok.  He was facing a court appearance re an allegation against him, but in the end did not have to appear and is in the clear.  Not a nice experience.

Been to LG and LotL – and got new long lens for camera!  More tomorrow.  Thanks for all the support – so pleased to be back here with you all!!

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • I should have done it this morning, margobird !  now I'm all behind!   How can it possibly be Friday, let alone another weekend coming up - I've not written letters I was going to write last weekend yet.

  • Good Afternoon from a wet(ish) and VERY windy Watford.

dibnlib  :  (will someone please tell me how to highlight the names.)  I read the 3 Steig Larsson books in a week - they were 'unputerdownable'.  Such a pity there won't be any more though.  I read an article about him that could have come from the plots of one of his own books.  There are so many unanswered questions about his life (and death) & how his girlfriend was possibly the actual author of the trilogy.  Great books though.

Annette in SoCal  :  The hardware store is still there in Langlay Road & open 7 days a week.  I'm in there at least once a week & was actually there this morning buying ANOTHER peanut feeder as our squirrells have pinched another one.  I wish I could find their stash, it would save me a fortune.  It's a veritable Aladins Cave & reminds me of Ronnie Barker's 'Open all Hours' with all the goods outside on the pavement.  I'd rather go there that one of the big hardware stores where you have to buy everything in multiples, instead of just the one that you actually need.

TGIF.  Have a nice weekend everyone.  Cheers, Cathie

  • Hi Cathie - just noticed your post & your question - if you want to highlight anything in bold print, either just press the Ctrl key and the letter 'B' at the same time, before typing, then press them both again to stop the effect, OR just type them anyway then highlight the word with your mouse and then press Ctrl & 'B' followed by a Left click on the mouse. Same to get Italics except you press the letter 'i'  -- 'Simples',  as the meerkat on TV says!  (seriously, hope this helps)

EDIT;  I saw the 'Girl with the Dragon Tattoo'  at the cinema, as a Friend has all the books by Larsson & said it would be gripping - so when I read the newspaper article about him & his life, I passed it on to her.

  • Hi Lindybird - Gee, I'm good :-)  Thanks a stack, I learn something new everyday.

  • Hello Cathie, we were all asking each other about bold and italics over the winter, and how to put pics on, all sorts. Do your squirrels actually take the whole feeder? Good grief!

Lindybird, I went into our neighbours barn yesterday afternoon and a swallow flew smack into my face, made my eyes water somewhat but the swallow flew off ok.  I have read the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, borrowed from a friend, and he has now lent me the other two but I'm reading something else at the moment.  Was it you who said you wouldn't see the film becasue you'd heard it was violent?  Having read the book I don't see how they could have filmed some of it and I wouldn't want to see it, although I definitely found the book unputdownable too (think it was Cathie said that).  I'm ok with a 12A but even 15s have too much violence for me.

  • Hi TerryM - Yes, they pinch the whole feeder.  My son went round the garden tonight & put them all back up again with cable-ties.  It's a wee bit awkward filling them, but if it works it should save me a fortune.  Btw, a bit late, but I loved your Osprey photograph - it's a 'keeper'.

I also watched the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo movie, but I still preferred the book.  I'm currently reading the Stones collection by Robert Carter - it's something different for me, but I'm enjoying them.

  • I suppose it's easier to share peanuts if one squirrel takes the feeder home and tips it out, rather than each having to climb out on a branch, Cathie, tee hee, I'm just imagining them cutting through the cable ties!  The Finnish osprey pic comes from a cam which has quite a big picture so it usually looks good, nothing to do with my skill but yes it's not bad.  I was just trying to find out why I can use MWSnap on it but not on LG. Annette has the same problem, it works on others but not LG (although I did manage it once a few months back).  Haven't heard of Robert Carter (except for a neighbour of ours, don't think it's him). What kind of book is it?

  • TerryM - Yes, I did see the film and its extremely violent, with sexual violence which I really don't like, but my friend had said it was such a gripping story she persuaded me to go. It was well produced and acted. We have been introduced to the Finnish Osprey cam by our contributor from there, her name is auntie.

    I'm off now,   Goodnight.

  • Ok, I've googled Robert Carter, fantasy. I'm a fantasy fan myself, have been since teenage. As well as crime.

I'm off now, have to wait until tomorrow to see if 3 juveniles on the nest.

  • Hi TerryM - what did we do before google ?  :-)  Goodnight.
