Hi everyone. Tired from long day; just saw LOTL blog and not sure I can watch the cam. :-(

Off to check out previous posts.

  • LINDYBIRD  a few years ago I got my first pair of rimless specs. Wore them home and OHs reaction was " I don't know what on earth possessed you!!!!" Luckily I liked them and so did everyone else. A few weeks later Oh admitted he had grown used to them and actually really liked them aswell

  • Great pic dibnlib and just look at that scenery.

    Margobird

  • Some replies to the above posts:  (there are so many...!    but I'm not complaining, as I love them all)

Alan:    Such a lovely study of the duckling, I have copied it to add to my huge collection of pics, hope you don't mind...

dibnlib:   If I framed that pic, and put it on the wall, all my visitors/relatives/friends would say "when did you go canoeing ??"  - it could so easily be me!  (and no, I've never been canoeing though I can row a boat if push comes to shove, on a calm boating lake)

Thanks to AQ  for the link to early maps info re Australia - hav'nt had time to look at it yet, but I will.

auntie:   So sorry to hear about your Mum - my mother had several really bad strokes, but other folks I have known have recovered well from lesser ones like your Mum - she will have to do some work on that hand as I expect you know, but there is no reason she should not recover. I shall be thinking of you both. (I was too polite to crow about Murray beating the Finnish player, sorry!)

margobird:   Glad to hear you enjoyed your concert - and the dinner, how nice to combine both and have such a lovely evening.

georgeg:    Now I know why I had to book myself into the Opticians today - my eyes are probably worn out with all this watching everything!   The Opticians was very very busy and it took an hour to be tested for various things, still it's nice to know that they look hard for any possible health problems, & I am OK, so I am just wearing out   s l o w l y....

All the shops were very busy, and a sunny Friday morning, so heaving with people, children and queues everywhere.  I panicked about only having 2 hours allowed in the car park at Sainsburys, then when I finally rushed my shopping and left about 10 minutes over time, the man in the little hut just waved me through without looking at my ticket. <phew>

  • Hi all.

Auntie I, too, am really sorry to hear about your Mum.  If your local hospital has a good rehabilitation unit, she has a good chance of a full recovery.

dibnlib Your pic could be a back view of me, too!

Niether of the Irelands! (Republic and Northern) made it to the World cup and as Scotland isn't in either, I can be totally unbiased!

Won't be online muc, if at all, over the weekend as I have two dog agility comps.  each about 90 minutes drive ffrom home.  I'll probably have a quick trawl through posts when I get home each evening.

    Have a good weekend, all.

  •  Dibnib, Re your photo on Loch Insh.  Did you watch the Osprey nest??How many chicks do you think there is.. We spent some time there last Saturday when we were up for the weekend..  She was definitely feeding but all the time we were there we only noticed one "squirt"

All I ask is the chance to prove that money can't make me happy.

  • Yesterday was great – but got home very late, so slept in this morning and never quite got fully awake.  It’s not a huge distance to Edinburgh from here – about two hours on the road plus extra time to get into the city whichever way they are currently allowing traffic to flow!   Had lunch at garden centre on the way in, and spent afternoon at Butterfly World – possible pictures to follow.  The evening event was very good – Grandson #1 was there as promised, and #2 turned up at the end to see us!   #1 has not yet found a summer job, so he may come down and possibly help with painting the fence and other thing in return for free food.  #2 wanted to ask us to meet and photograph him at the end of a bike ride – length of Scotland from Dunnet Head to Mull of Galloway – in August.  It’s good having contact with the boys independent of their mother, our Dau#2!  Not much done today, apart sending OH to Tesco’s so we can be at home tomorrow, away from the town being host to the British Pipe Band Championships!  Had a phone call today, the delivery of our new gas boiler for installation on Monday will be at 7:00 am tomorrow!!! – heard OH tell them “I shall be up, but my wife won’t”!

Thanks to all for posts yesterday and today – can’t reply to everyone!

Alan – sorry about Lady P’s ear infection – look after her, and I hope she feels much better very soon.  Lovely duckling today.

Annette – mission organisation we support is Latin Link, sending Europeans to help churches in Latin America and bringing people from there to Europe through Latin Partners.  There are full-timers, but also people on short term programmes, and the send off was mainly for students going on teams to Brasil and Argentina.  This is the organisation I do some mail-outs and conference admin for.  Thinking about it, I suppose we have a sort-of media-cabinet, in that all our audio-visual equipment is in slots in one unit with the wires all concealed behind – I’ve just never given it a name!

Dibnlib – so pleased Dillon got the “all-clear” from the vet.  Very flat water in the Loch Insh photo, must have been a windless day.

Lindybird – as I understand it, the Bilberry and Blueberry are close relatives but not the same.  Bilberries (Vaccinium myrtillus), known regionally as blaeberry, whortleberry, whinberry etc are European natives, and when they do occur in the US are known as Huckleberries.  Blueberries (Vaccinium Cyanococcus) originate from North America – the wild ones being more low-growing than the cultivars.  Pleased for you that all was well at the optician’s.

Auntie – so sorry about your Mum’s stroke – I hope she will make a full and speedy recovery - maybe with some physiotherapy and speech therapy to help her.

Margobird – glad you enjoyed your dinner and show.

GeorgeG – the Red Kite at the wind farm is one of the three school-named Kites reported dead last week.  I do hope the hospital will be able to build up your BiL’s weight and muscle tone and get him home soon.  Great that you will get to LG on your journeys north and back – more likely to be ringing on your way home, I would think.

HeatherB – Welcome back from Edinburgh – I hope the family there are all well. I am sure your OH won’t mind waiting for gingerbread till after you come back from holiday.  Have a good time away.

Patriciat – good luck with the dog competitions this weekend.

Soosin – thanks for news of Loch Insh Osprey – in earlier posts we were saying we didn’t know whether a pair bred there this year.

Sorry this is so long – but it is two days’ worth!!

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • Auntie - So sorry to hear about your Mum. I do hope she has a speedy recovery.

Lindybird - I changed my shopping pattern a few months ago when a supermarket at Glenelg started charging to park in their car park. First 90 mins was free, but it was a nuisance to go and fetch a ticket if I was staying a short time. And an even bigger nuisance to watch the clock if I decided to go the bank, do weekly shopping at s'market, greengrocer, butcher, etc plus browse the bookshops.

Wonderful. It is raining again. Currently 12 C, expecting 15. Nearly lunchtime and all I've done this morn is read osprey doings and proofread Dau#2's wedding invites and the stuff that goes out with said invites these days. I earned my non-existent pay - I found a date wrong!

  • Hi, all. Had a too-long shopping mission in the heat today. Off to bed early.

Auntie: I'm so very sorry about your mother's stroke. I'm sending healing energy, and I hope she has a quick and complete recovery. Take care of yourself, too, during this stressful time.

OG: Welcome back. I'm glad you had a nice time. I look forward to butterfly pics!!! Hope the boiler installation goes well.     dibnlib: I so enjoyed the canoeing photo!!! Looked like a great canoe and lovely calm water. I loved going canoeing in my younger days. I hope to do it again sometime.  I'm so glad that Dillon has recovered.   AQ: Well done on the proofreading. What would they do without you on the job?    Alan: Sweet little duckling pic.     HeatherB: Have a wonderful holiday!     George G: Enjoy your LG visit(s)!     Lindybird: Glad your eyes were okay, and I hope you found some frames you liked. Speaking of vision...

Did you all know that World War II RAF pilots are reported to have eaten bilberry jam in order to sharpen their vision for night missions? Also, recent studies suggest that eating bilberries may inhibit or reverse eye disorders, such as cataracts. The research is exciting, but preliminary and controversial.

Annette: You haven't posted much last day or two. Are you searching for a new telly or watching Wimbledon?

I'm off to bed. Everyone have a great weekend.

  • Evening all: Been gone most of the day - morning errands then lunch with women friends; then the roses; then home.

Lindybird: I spend ages buying frames and ended up with progressive lens in small frames. It's always an ordeal and OH (as with clothes) never seems to say the right thing.  I like the frames - was lucky to find an optician who had some sense of style and answers to "why this frame and not that frame."

Oh Auntie!! So sorry about your Mom - why do these things happen when we really need to relax and not have to worry about things.  :-(

Margobird:  I have some very old fillings, but my dentists says as long as everything's working he won't bother them. Glad you had a nice evening out and that the Italians were their usual hospitable selves.

    Alan: Cute little ducky.  :-)

George g: Not good news about red kite.  OG mentions three!!?   :-(   Have a lovely trip to LG!.

Heather: Have a lovely week? away.

dibnlib; Peter James? Never heard of him.  Am currently reading 'Ordinary Thunderstorms" by William Boyd (thriller).   Looks like you're contemplating what to do next in your canoe.

OG: Glad you had a good time especially after such a long drive. Those students must've been very excited at the prospect of going to South America.  Oh, hiring your grandson, eh? Been there; done that - and not sure we'd do it again in a hurry since he got "tired" quickly, but still managed to work up an appetite.  :-)  Huckleberries? Never had one - how complicated it all is (but tasty).

Diane: Didn't know that about bilberry jam (maybe something osprey watchers should consider?).   Have been busy and out most of today; may do the telly bit this weekend, but neighbor gave me tomato plants, so must repot those and also restring (or whatever) all the vines that we laid down when they came to fix the wall.   Am also finding that I've needed to be in bed by 10 in order to keep up with all the week's activities and am trying to keep to that since it gives me time to read in bed before nodding off - and I find that very relaxing.

Take care all.  Will keeping an eye on the U.S. team tomorrow in the World Cup.

  • Good morning to all. And thank each and everyone for your kind words according my mum and glad to tell she is better - her speech is almost normal and she can move all her fingers although still can't hold anything in her left hand, fingers too weak still. It is so heartwarming that we can share here even these not so happy events with each other, thank you all! xxx

Thanks for wonderful pics everyone and OG, I'm waiting those butterfly shots :) Lindybird, choosing frames can be terrible, I should get new eyewear too but am holding back 'cause I'm afraid can't find nice frames LOL. GeorgeG hope you get to see "good stuff" in LG. HeatherB, happy holidays! Diane, thanks for that healing energy and BTW my dad always said blueberries are good for night vision and upset stomachs

If my mum's recovery goes this way (=good speed) I will probably go and visit Pohtiolampi (see link) next week or week after that. There are no osprey nests there but a very good chance to see osps fishing. If (and when) I go, shall report back to you
