Weekly Chat Sunday, June 20,2010

Hi everyone. Tired from long day; just saw LOTL blog and not sure I can watch the cam. :-(

Off to check out previous posts.

  • LINDYBIRD  don't think HM likes tennis very much either  (no horses involved!!)

  • Don't think most of the Royal Family like sports which don't involve horses:  Princess Di always did the honours gladly when she was alive, she enjoyed it all. (the tennis, that is).  Notice that the Queen only stayed for the Murray match today, apparently she was scheduled to leave in a few minutes anyway, when the match came to an end.  Perhaps she will turn up again if he makes it to the Final...

Amazed that Italy are now out of the World Cup:  that is almost unthinkable.  We are all going to experience sports overload in the next few weeks.  I usually watch more of the tennis during the second week of play, and my OH likes the football. Wonder how many more surprises there are going to be in both sports, with players and teams knocked out who were expected to do better.  Ah well, we will see.  Must off to bed now, early morning tomorrow as off to Opticians.   Night All.

  • Evening all: Also surprised that Italy out of the World Cup (not that I know anything, but I guess all bets are off now as to the favorite?)  Will see highlights (ha!) of monster tennis match this evening.   And here's another one who didn't know that bilberries and blueberries are the same thing.

Lindybird: Yes, what is it with those black shoes!  A handkerchief eh? I remember those... not the most hygenic way to deal with those bad colds I used to get...)   I too tend to watch more tennis during the second week - and later. The finals are always over our July 4 weekend.

dibnlib: Let's hope DIllon stays healthy until your bank account is better too.  A new P.D.James? I'll have to track it down.

Off to check on various and sundry to-dos - back later. Take care all.

  • Normally today I would visit archives but it is raining and a four block walk, so I’m going to library instead (2 blocks mostly under verandahs). I have 2 projects so just swopping brain on to another channel. LOL

Margobird - When my dentist says I need something done, I always tease him that it is because he needs a new fishing rod. He has a nasty habit of replacing old worn-out fillings. Fingers crossed that he won’t find anything this year.

Lindybird - The Portuguese & Dutch discovered Australia very early. Often called Java Le Grande or New Holland. First documented & undisputed sighting & landing in 1606 by Dutch. Better explanation on

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/European_exploration_of_Australia. Some interesting early maps on http://www.slq.qld.gov.au/coll/maps/aust or Google 'early maps Australia'.

Sports overload. In their wisdom our TV only plays Wimbledon late, after regular programs. Last night the single hour was sandwiched after the Footy Show which always runs half hour late and the cricket. I fell asleep waiting, woke to find cricket had started early. Grrrrrrr. My other complaint is that until all the Aussies are knocked out, we don’t get to see other matches. Except first night when Hewitt’s opponent was delayed returning from another tournament and, wonder of wonders, they showed Federer.

  • Hi, all. Really tired tonight and I'm heading for bed early.     OG: Very sorry. I missed your post about your trip and failed to wish you a good journey. I hope you had a wonderful time!!!

Annette: I can still watch both the LG and LotL webcams, so if you're continuing to have problems, it's probably your system. I hope you got everything sorted. You might try updating your media player (s). Also, try a hard boot (completely unplug your system and boot everything up together). System restore is always an option. Or do what I do and threaten to throw it in the creek. That usually fixes mine. Good luck.

Will catch up with everyone else tomorrow. Everyone have a nice Friday.

  • Evening all and G'night Diane.

AQ; The Portuguese and Dutch sure got around - that's what happens when it takes two minutes to walk around your national borders - build a ship and go grab someone else's land. Oh well.  Of course, the Brits were right there too.

  • Morning, All.   Sunny and bright here again today, with a warmish/hot day forecast here and an even hotter one in the London area (glad I'm not on the tennis court there).

I'm off early today as appointment at the opticians, which is in another nearby town. (a cheaper option). Have to agonise over choice of frames for new ones by myself, as good friend is away, and OH is pretty useless at that sort of thing...  see you all later.

  • Hello all! And congrats UK folks for Andy Murray winning yesterdays match against Finnish player :) And of course congrats England getting to continue in World Cup, our team didn't even get to go there, we just suck in football (and tennis) *sigh*. My hols haven't been really relaxing - my mum had a stroke on Wednesday, she is better now but time will tell if she recovers totally. Her speech is still a bit "slurry" and her left fingers don't move. But as said it's still early days and she might be back to herself totally.

  • Morning all ... a little overcast here, but still fairly warm .... OH is 'painting' the outdoor furniture just now, so I am sitting here at the computer ... and keeping a beady eye on him ... in case he skimps on it!!

auntie - so sorry to hear about your mum .... I hope she makes a full recovery

Interesting about the bilberries/blueberries being one and the same .... my Dad always called them bilberries ... he was Irish!

So much to watch today ... ospreys and barn owls ... Wimbledon ... Football ... in that order of course!

Suppose I should tear myself away while the nest is quiet and do some chores.

Thanks to all for interesting chat etc

    Take care
