Hallo all:

Soosin posted the following about her Saturday and various bird sightings, etc.,  at the very end of the last Daily Update, so I'm copying it here otherwise no-one will see them (she saw mating kingfishers!). And Alan posted some new links, which are also here (Hope that was okay Soosin and Alan).

From Soosin: Just in from a day in Galloway visiting rellies.  What weather, fantastic,  Saw mating kingfishers at Cumstoun Bridge, Kirkcudbright. and an Osprey on tje nest at Threave Castle our first house martins of the year and possible first swallow but in car and couldn't be sure.  Spring definitely here. whooopeee  Great to catch up with all your obs and pics from throughout day. So, they still seem to be sharing, aahh, how nice. Empty nest looking well padded with moss with  the night vision on it.  Someone mentioned a new blog.  off to read that now. Be out all day again tomorrow. on the hill hoping for Ring Ousel

From Alan: Nesting calendars for Owls and Hawks, International falcons and US falcons have been updated. http://peregrinefalcon-bcaw.net/viewforum.php?f=6

jsb: Thanks for the link to to Capercaille call - was it you who said it wasn't one you could whistle to?  Right!

  • Lindybird: "Love and Peace" is from the Peace rose family - a marvellous rose that I used to have in my Long Beach garden.  There's apparently a lot of "Peace" offspring.

  • 2 eggs for kestrels Hover and Crecelle in Oxfordshire:

  • Oh dear!  I can’t keep up with all of this.  I so want to “talk” to you all, but am very busy – should have been compiling/editing the next church magazine but actually worked hard indoors all morning catching up on laundry after hols (don’t mention the ironing – the pile is overwhelming!) then worked hard in the greenhouse all afternoon while OH scarified, strimmed and mowed the front grass.  Collected pictures from framer this evening, so had to hang them – very pleased with the results.  Will have to try a replies session tomorrow, so for now will leave you with a picture from Vane Farm – Blue Tit collecting nesting material among the willows.

    Goodnight.

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • OG - Lovely pic of the bluetit .... They always look so cheeky!

Just had to post this screenshot of these barn owls ... unlike our lovely Odin he brings a present for his lady before he has his wicked way!!

  • Hello Lindybird.  I've been dipping in and out of cameras, updates etc. today but had much to do.  Now amazed to read that you went to see 'The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo' - by coincidence I'm about half way through reading 'The Girl who Played with Fire', the sequel.  Not reading it in Swedish, I hasten to say!  It's pretty explicit too,  in terms of both sex and violence.  I had never heard of the author but like to try writers I don't know from time to time.

  • Oh Annette how I agree with you about the furniture and the housework!  What a lot of work involved in moving things to get at the dust.  Hope you have a great anniversary -  and a super meal the next day.  I once had to attend a business lunch in the catering college attached to a university - it was superb.  I bet yours will be too.

  • How come Truck Dude is all the way back up to Washington, when last I saw him he was crossing Arizona? He really gets about doesn't he?

  • DJoan  very many thanks for the perfect link. And what a WONDERFUL lots of photos !!!!!!!!   One and all - I've so ejoyed the picture show (what have you named you delightful puss Annette)

  • Well, Mother Nature decided to shake up sleepy ol’ Adelaide last night. We had a 3.8 earthquake at 11.30 pm, epicentre in Adelaide Hills. I was quietly reading (snoozing?) on lounge when I heard this rumble. Himself came rushing in from his computer and said "B- h- what was that?" This morn’s newspaper reports that within half an hour a Facebook site had 2000 fans . . . and someone was selling t-shirts online for $21 saying "I survived the Adelaide earthquake 2010". Words fail me !!!!!! BTW no damage was reported.

OG - Just when I thought I could forget the ironing for a few months, summer returns, expecting 29 C later this week. (Not fair, she protests.)

Annette - Does your Puss think you have some new kind of TV with the same program? LOL

  • TerryM: Trucker Steve does a lot of driving - it's a big country - I'm amazed at how many miles he covers.

Cirrus: Our fat white cat is called Lightning (she grew up in the same house as my daughter's black chow, Thunder).

AQ:   What? An earthquake?  And pretty close to you from the sounds of it. Are they common in your area?  Hmm. A new kind of TV with the same program? Sounds like the "old" real TV. :-)
