Hallo all:

Soosin posted the following about her Saturday and various bird sightings, etc.,  at the very end of the last Daily Update, so I'm copying it here otherwise no-one will see them (she saw mating kingfishers!). And Alan posted some new links, which are also here (Hope that was okay Soosin and Alan).

From Soosin: Just in from a day in Galloway visiting rellies.  What weather, fantastic,  Saw mating kingfishers at Cumstoun Bridge, Kirkcudbright. and an Osprey on tje nest at Threave Castle our first house martins of the year and possible first swallow but in car and couldn't be sure.  Spring definitely here. whooopeee  Great to catch up with all your obs and pics from throughout day. So, they still seem to be sharing, aahh, how nice. Empty nest looking well padded with moss with  the night vision on it.  Someone mentioned a new blog.  off to read that now. Be out all day again tomorrow. on the hill hoping for Ring Ousel

From Alan: Nesting calendars for Owls and Hawks, International falcons and US falcons have been updated. http://peregrinefalcon-bcaw.net/viewforum.php?f=6

New Forest Goshawks have at least 2 eggs now. http://www.newforestgateway.org/Wildcam/LiveCameras/tabid/117/Default.aspx

jsb: Thanks for the link to to Capercaille call - was it you who said it wasn't one you could whistle to?  Right!

  • Dibnlib : I stayed in a caravan at East Beach caravan site in Nairn when I was a teenager. Is the site still there?

Falcon nesting calendars have been updated:

  • OG posted a message to you on yesterdays daily by mistake.Glad you had a good trip away and amazing weather.

Did anyone read about the Cranes nesting at an RSPB site near Kirriemuir. If intersted see Scotlands newspage

  • ANNETTE  enjoy your new roses. Apparently last nights debate had an audience of 9.5 million. OH watched but I just grabbed 10 mins. Today all of the parties are claiming that they won hands down. Scotlands SNP leader made a big hoo- haa about not being involved, but hey you win some - you lose some.

  • ANNETTE meant to add that we too have an an anniversary coming up. In 10 days time we will have been married for 30 years. We haven't yet decided where to go for a meal. Should it be our favourite Rocpool but eat off the a la carte or somewhere else for a change

  • LINDYBIRD. think I may have confused you. I was interested to know what Mark thought of the new Scrabble rules ( the use of proper nouns in order to interest more young people) Personally I  think they should have left it as it was. What are your thoughts?

  • ALAN  yes there is quite  a large caravan site at East  Beach.  We usually start our walk some distance away and walk towards the direction of the site. It is always lovely and quiet that way. After the beach we tend to head off in the direction of Brodie Countryfare. Had a latte and 1/2 cheesecake today but no other purchases which makes a change.

  • Is anyone able to give me a direct link to the Goshawk nest live video cam? All I come up with are forums and things which one has to make up yet one more login and password.

  • Cirrus - this is the link I use ... its the RSPB link to it ... http://www.rspb.org.uk/webcams/birdsofprey/newforest.asp

  • dibnlib: Why do my eyes always zoom to "latte and cheesecake/carrot cake/any cake" on the blogs. :-)  Our 7th anniversary (we knew each other for 18 years and didn't want to rush into anything!) is 4/21; we're going out to dinner on 4/22 at the "Gourmet Dining Room" at the local college which has a good culinary arts program. The fourth semester students do all the cooking, hosting, and serving, so we're guinea pigs of a sort but it's always very pleasant. You get about five modest-sized courses and, because it's a city college, they can't legally sell alcohol, but they can give it away!  So you get a small glass of wine with each course, usually from local and very nice little wineries.  And all for a reasonable price - and a great location!

OH is vacuuming the bedrooms, which I ve just dusted and wiped off. That's probably the wrong order in which to do things.  I've decided I want minimal furniture and it all has to be lightweight, on wheels, with legs, etc., far enough apart that the vacuum will fit in between without getting caught up.  Oh how I hate housework!  Now back to the laundry.....  Cat has only recently discovered the front-loading washer, which sploshes about intermittently.  She's not sure what to make of it.

  • Love your cat Annette;  what a great pic.   Did like the way you put a big <smile> on the heading for the Daily Page today!    Your roses sound nice.  We used to have one called 'Peace' which had the most enormous flowers, that was pink.  Went to the film at the request of Friend, who had read all the books by the author, and was ver y keen.  She said "Oh, its a thriller, but you'll like it" - but I don't enjoy the violent ones.

Alan; that was a great pic of the Nauvo nest, with the osprey 'ruff' standing up in the wind.

dibnlib:  I see what you mean;   I'll ask him about the new Scrabble rules, I had forgotten the news story a while back about the changes.  (Personally, I prefer the traditional way to play, as I think there may be arguments about names of the famous, also how they are spelt.)

Off to catch up on some TV now as we seem to be copying a great deal on the new gadget thingy but never finding the time to watch it all.
