WEEKLY CHAT (non-osprey) SUNDAY FEBRUARY 8, 2015

Hi everyone!

  • Ours is still grey, but never mind: I'm only going shopping so it doesn't really matter about the weather. Good that Benson enjoyed his walk, dibnlib.
  • A lovely sunny day here on Speyside although a lovely thick dry frost;-)

Daisy enjoying eldests company and a good day was had at Spey Bay and beyond.

Today is a walk by the river and then lunch at Castle Gordon in Fochabers.

Tomorrow will be LG for Cresties and maybe cake at MC.

Sadly Friday daughter flies back to Bath but her flight is late pm so we get a good part of the day together.

If you have our lovely weather ... enjoy:-)

  • I have just lost a post !!

Another grey day here. I noticed that we have rain on Friday, when I have an appointment at the hairdressers. OH's appointment with the dental hygienist was cancelled this morning as the hygienist has called in sick. Rearranged for next week. Just checked the birthday list and I need to buy 9 cards for the next three weeks. Booked a car service. for two weeks time. As you can guess, I am checking on the 'to do' list. I now need to shop for fresh salad and veg. plus other essentials.

Linda, Are you feeling any better this morning ?

Wendy, Life is going to seem quieter for you, after Friday. It does sound as if you are really enjoying yourself.

  • Hello All - Lovely sunny day here today, but very thick frost to to start with. I am going to clean out and tidy up the plants in the conservatory today while the sun is shining in there.  Lots of birds on the feeders today, I am getting many more starlings now and still getting my lone seagull.

Wendy - I am glad that you are enjoying your Daughter's visit, the time passes by all too quickly.

Dibnlib - Hope Benson is back to normal now.

Clare - I hope that Limpy is still continuing to improve and will soon be able to visit Minsmere again.

  • Still grey here!! Mind you, the weather girl assured us that the cloud cover is keeping us warm....... Went shopping, and did errands, including dropping off a bag of stuff at the charity shop. Last week I congratulated myself on throwing out the equivalent of a bagful, plus filling the aforementioned bag for charity. The next day our neighbour came around with four boxes of toys for our grandchildren!! We gave a box of construction toys to our Youngest the other day. One of the wooden train sets might be handy for little Amber to play with when she visits - no sex discrimination here!!
  • Nice to hear from Wendy. Hope Limpy is still improving. Brenda: Thanks, I feel a lot better now. Back to normal tomorrow, I expect!
  • Have taken another "photo of a photo". - here is my grandson Matthew peeping over my husbands shoulder!!
  • His hair is not really that ginger!! It must be the light! But his eyes really are that round, LOL!!!

  • Hi to everyone - many thanks to you all for wishing me well.
I have had a back and neck x-ray. I have sciatica in the back and they have just made my day telling me that I have bad wear and tear to the spine and severe arthritis to the spine and neck.  Just add what I already have to the knees, fingers, hands, ankles and elbows otherwise all is well and I should be able to run the London marathon this year.
I do read the Weekly Chat regularly even if I am not posting on it.  I did notice that some of you have asked how I am doing at Minsmere.  I am doing really well and I absolutely love being a volunteer and here is why.
I was already known by a lot of the regulars that go there but I now know a lot more of the people that go there.  I very much enjoy helping the people that come to see the wildlife there - I also get a great satisfaction seeing the children going home with big smiles on their faces because they have seen so much.  Some of the adults have never seen some of the wildlife that they have been trying for a long time to see so when we can tell them where to look to see the otters, marsh harriers , bearded tits etc. and we see them coming back very happy because they have now seen what they have come to see gives me a very good feeling that we have been of some help to them.
The RSPB staff and volunteers that I work with are really lovely, it is like being part of a big happy family.  Many of the staff and volunteers that have been doing for a long time are so knowledgeable, they are always willing to teach you and pass their knowledge on to you. I have just done an otter workshop - basically learning more about the otter. When I was told that we would be smelling their spraint (otter poo) I got a bit worried but surprisingly it wasn’t that bad. This Saturday I will be doing the badger work shop - can’t wait for that.
I do have so much to thank the RSPB for letting me get involved as a volunteer.
I would recommend it to people - my only regret is that it has taken so long for me to get involved.

  • LIMPY   Sounds like a wonderful place to volunteer and you are obviously learning so much. Despite all your aches and pains it is nice to see you retain your sense of humour.

WENDY   your daughters visit must feel like it is over before it has begun, but I am sure you all enjoyed what time you have had together. Roll on next visit.
