Patily - A few weeks ago I was told that Blue 24s mate that she joined up with after her exploits with Dai Dot was not ringed. She had spent a good part of the summer with him so hopefully maybe she will be successful next summer along with Manton Bay Pair and they become strong nests.

I do have a feeling though we may see Blue 24 put in an appearance at Dyfi in 2015 should she return.

I am far from convinced by this report. We know for certain that Blue 24 has spent much of the summer hanging around _Dyfi_ - not always close enough to the nest to upset Monty & Glesni and therefore prompt mention on FB or chat, but using favoured perches within sight of the Observatory. No evidence of any mate, unfortunately. That is 1st hand information from DOP, so I put rather more credence on this than on unsubstantiated reports from people I don't know.

Evidence re Dai Dot is conflicting, even from reliable witnesses in the area. I'm not convinced the timing fits for him to be the male at the new nest, but equally, his complete absence from known, regular haunts on the Dyfi strongly suggests that he did have somewhere else to go when Monty returned - and a nest/ mate to keep him busy.

  • Hi Rachel. Friends of Osprey link further back have confirmed that Blue 24 took to a nest platform close to Dyfi and indeed until the dyfi chicks hatched monty was a regular visitor to her. She has now paired up with a n other at this nest but too late in the season for egg production.

  • Lmac - this is what I am saying: Friends of the Ospreys say one thing, DOP say another. If DOP say not, I'm inclined to think they may be better informed. She has spent a fair bit of time on the 2nd platform at Dyfi, which may be what the N Wales group are referring to, but that isn't likely to be a viable breeding site.

  • On the OWL Orphaned Wildlife Rehab Society FB page there is a very short (6 secs) vid of Nel fledging in the confine she is in.

    They say

    An exciting morning at O.W.L!
For all of our Nelson Osprey fans, Nel has taken flight! This morning our staff members went to check on Nel in her pool cage. This little video is the scene we were privileged to witness. We are thrilled!
