I have just had a look at Sanibel cam and I see an Osprey has arrived. No idea who it is - is it Ripply from last year or a new bird. I remember last year finding a facebook/blog page about this nest but for the life of me can't remember what it was so can't compare images from last season, so if anyone else can remember......
Thank you for all the links above Tiger. Nel looks reasonably good in the last picture.

Very interesting blog from Tweed Valley
The bit at the end about the shell encasing the other egg will just be something else for me to worry about nest year :)
Ospreys are very difficult to rehabilitate or keep in captivity as somewhere along the line they commonly refuse to eat. Venessa Greene was the first person in USA to successfully train a permanantly disabled osprey for the raptor centre its name was Ollie.
The first chick that was knocked off the nest at lochter last year and was taken into rehab in central Scotland was doing well but died some 6 months later and I believe they were trying to train it like Ollie.
Hope this one can grow and be released as the best hope.
Yet more news on Nell
Tiger Signature
I can hardly believe how well Nel looks after all s/he has been through. To survive three prolonged fasts for such a young chick and come out looking so strong is simply amazing.

Thanks for all the updates on Nell Tiger, it is encouraging to know that Ospreys can survive in captivity.
It was very unfortunate that the Lochter chick died at 6 months, however it was not because it was in captivity that was the cause of its death, I was kindly given the full Vet's Report by the person who looked after it when it was transferred elsewhere but have kept it to myself in respect of her trust.
I am looking forward to visiting Lochter again next week to see three healthy chicks, and I hope that the buzzard's have kept well away this year.

It is amazing how long chicks can survive. Ten days in extreme heat.
Tiger thank you for the links re: little Nel, he/she looked better than I could ever imagine.
Also how old was the chick that survived the heat for 10 days?!

Unfortunately it does not say but I suspect that they were rather older than Nell.
Pleased to hear the chick is doing ok in rehab, good to see the pic thanks for the links Tiger.
