I have just had a look at Sanibel cam and I see an Osprey has arrived. No idea who it is - is it Ripply from last year or a new bird. I remember last year finding a facebook/blog page about this nest but for the life of me can't remember what it was so can't compare images from last season, so if anyone else can remember......
Hi,
Hi, I went to see the Bassenthwaite nest, on the screens at Whinlatter, on the 6th and yesterday. I took a few pics and
I tried to put two pics in here, in rich formatting, but it refused to post!
Yesterday, there was a fish already on the nest and the male brought a new one in. As a feed was going on he ate the fish on the nest, also feeding a few bits to a youngster. Lovely to see.
Unfortunately there was some bad news, as one of the chicks, the eldest, has an injury of some sort, or a paralysis, and can not use it's right leg. It is the one in the middle in the above pic.It was noticed on Saturday, when they have been moving around more. It is still begging and being fed so far anyway. So that is sad. It has not been put on the web site yet, though. I may go back on Friday.
That is such bad news CHRISYB. We can only hope that it may be a temporary injury and not permanent. Thank you for letting us know.
So glad you also had some happy viewing.
ChrisyB thank you for your report from the Bassenthwaite nest. That is extremely sad news re the chick with the injured leg.

I don't know much about pics because I only ever upload snapshots here, but I wonder if your pics were too big? Maybe someone can advise you on re-sizing them. Otherwise you might just try again, as I often have to try twice with even low-resolution snapshots.
Thank you for posting the sad news, CHRISYB, it's going to be hard not to dwell on it :'(

Update from Diane at Tweed Valley
TWEED VALLEY - A SAD LOSS
Thank you Keith - very sad.
That is sad reading.
Keith, thank you for the link. It is sad when one of a long term pairing of any species disappears/dies/does not come back. However this new pairing, which SS is unsure of at the moment, may become very successful. No-one wants a bird on their own all season and not reproducing, so the order of nature takes over and the events being played out are as they should be and SS has a potential new partner so not so sad. I hope they have a successful season next year.
The LAKE DISTRICT have reported that two chicks are not well.
"Apologies over the lack of recent updates, over the weekend, firstly one chick, then another became ill. We have taken advice from a vet, and it is suspected that two of the chicks are suffering from some kind of infection. We are very concerned, and will keep monitoring the chicks health and let you know how things progress...fingers and talons crossed folks"
Keith - Oh no what a disaster!
