I have just had a look at Sanibel cam and I see an Osprey has arrived. No idea who it is - is it Ripply from last year or a new bird. I remember last year finding a facebook/blog page about this nest but for the life of me can't remember what it was so can't compare images from last season, so if anyone else can remember......
Shiela, of course I don't mind :-))
Starling: Sorry I don't know exactly when she was last seen so thanks Sheila for the information.
All I know is that they got wet. My friend works so rarely sees the nest however was home early on Wednesday and checked in on the nest about 4.30pm to see the male standing with a fish waiting on the female. It was chucking it down and the chicks were getting drenched. The cam went off at 5pm as usual and in the 30 minutes he never saw the female. He has since been working so couldn't follow up.
This morning was the first I've looked in on TV for a while.

Is the female a regular returner to tweed valley.
Lmac - I'm sure this is their 11th season. She is a very experienced female, raised plenty young and personally I don't think she'd leave them especially not in such bad weather. I really feel something has happened to her :-(
LMAC - As Karen points out this is their 11th season together as we understand.
The female is unringed but each season Tweed valley has reported that it is the same pairing of WHITE SS (Male) with Unringed Female.
They have been prolific breeders and the female has been a very good mother over these years which makes this case very unusual.
TV - Male is on the perch by the nest with a fish. I can't see any chicks. I hope we get some news tomorrow of what has gone wrong here.

It's possible that the people at Tweed Valley have removed the chicks - didn't someone hear voices on the cam just before it went down?
It's heartbreaking to hear about things going this wrong with any osprey nest. I agree with Karen that something must have happened to the female.
Our herring gulls are red listed birds. Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.
Oh no I saw this yesterday and couldn't bear to comment Wonder what could have happened they posted such a lovely video the other day
Just catching up after a few day absence. I am so sorry to read the bad news, but I am grateful for for all your posts.
Tweed Valley
I have just got back in and switched on the webcam and there are two birds on the nest just now!
Capture of them both at 13:10 - they look quite comfortable together on the nest - I so hope it is the female
13:14 one osprey flew off followed closely by the other.
And now its empty
Bird has come back
