Weekly Chat (Non-Osprey), Sunday 25 August 2013

HAPPY NEW WEEK!!!

Here's a link to last week's Weekly Chat thread. The code for this week's Weekly Chat is WC250813 (in case you ever want to search for it from the search box).

I was away most of last week, and I think it's too late for me to get caught up on replies. I have read all of your news and have loved all the photos!

I enjoyed the report and pics from AQ's most recent trip (yay, ducks! And loved that pelican, also the big trees). Wonderful photos from Mulberry and NiteOwl (lilies are one of my very, very favorite flowers; yours are super lovely!). Beautiful dragonfly from Alicat.

I really loved the very majestic photos from Lindy -- ducks and deer! Woo hoo! That's an especially beautiful species of deer. Beautiful hibiscus from Alan. Love your increasingly subversive signatures, Alan. LOL! Glad that Mulberry saw an osprey! Happy belated birthday to Jess.

Glad that Cerist at Dyfi has been found! Nice to see Mike posting here. Brenda: Are you glad or relieved to say good-bye to the puppy? LOL

OG: Hope your sparrow hawk was okay after the window strike! Thanks for posting the excellent photos of handsome Diesel, handsome George, and your own beautiful self!

Nice to see Lynette. I hope you have a grand holiday in Austria.

I hope that Limpy is feeling better!

I'm so very glad that Margo has had good results from the chemo. Sending good energy to you, Margo.

Everyone have a great week! It's Indian Summer here and the temperatures this week will be 90 - 100 F (32.2 - 37.7 C) with very high humidity. Yuck.

  • Thank you again to everyone. OH is just pleased to have Dillon home again. He is in the hall at the mo, with buster collar on.

  • Glad he's back home, dibnlib - hugs to you All.

  • Good evening. A strangely dull day, with some weird dampness; not enough to call it rain or even drizzle, but really humid air.

Brenda – sounds like you two really are getting your garden ready for autumn now!

Lynette - I wish something could be done to help your OH to overcome the circulation problem in his legs.

    AQ – Lovely spring blossom!

Diane - that Tanager is so bright and cheerful!

Annette – great to enjoy helping somebody else spend her money after lunch yesterday! Driveway man came quite late one evening; he is very unwell and mostly just supervising and running the company, but he is on the case now.

Dibnlib – good luck with the eye appointment next week. I was so sorry to read about poor Dillon; give him a hug from us. It was good to talk on the phone earlier – will be thinking of him, and the two of you.

Limpy – thanks for sharing the photos of “not an owl” – is this your new friend instead of Barny?

Brenda – Penny is lovely, especial that photo at the top of the steps! Sorry she has to have surgery so young.

NiteOwl – I hope you have circuit breakers for electric garden appliances such as the hedge trimmer, so the current would cut out if you cut the cable.

Clare - thanks for the photos from Felixstowe Ferry.

Good night, All. Please excuse typos – blame my blurry eye!

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • What typos?  Your accuracy is remarkable, OG.

Our herring gulls are red listed birds.  Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.

  • We've had strange weather here, too.  Didn't know whether to wear a jacket or not this morning, so took a brolly instead... then it was bright sunshine on the way home.  This afternoon, it was so bright that after my OH had cut the lawn, we put out the lounger chairs, but then after only 15 minutes sitting out, had to run in with them quickly as the sky darkened so much.

Clare:  I love the bright colour of the boat, too.  What a nicely cheerful picture - thanks!!

Will try to post some pics now, wish me luck as this morning I couldnt even post any messages!

  • Good luck, Lindy - I'm looking forward to seeing them.

  • Here are yet more pics of our day out at L. Moreton Hall.

After looking around a lot of the rooms, we came upon the small private chapel:  this is the stained glass window behind the small altar:

Up closer:  the faces on the figures were amazingly well drawn, but it doesn't come out in the camera work, sadly.

Where the pews were set, the window at the side wall all on the slant, as usual in this building!

  • Those are beautiful, Lindy - I love stained glass.  It's amazing how these wonky buildings have stood like it for so long.

  • (Thanks Clare!)

When we exited the chapel, we came out back into the main courtyard again, in bright sunshine....

We passed through the courtyard and into the gardens:  they include a nice orchard where there are tables set out for visitors to take refreshments, and of course the ducks know this and come running, every time anyone sits down!

"Quick, Agatha, there are some humans sitting down.......!"

  • Awwwww!  They're not daft, are they?

    Agatha???
