This is the new thread for posting reports of osprey sightings, whether on the internet, in the press or in real life.
For the benefit of any new or less frequent viewers, it might be helpful if the first person to refer to a regular online source of information, for example Faune-Aquitaine, provided a link and a brief explanation of what the site is about.
Let the migration season commence!
Another sighting earlier today not too far away from Rutland Water:
15/03 22:09 NORTHAMPTONSHIRE : Osprey, Moulton [S]one reported this morning, in flight between Holcot and Moulton, and heading towards Pitsford Reservoir
My Husband saw an Osprey low over the A24 just outside Worthing, West Sussex at 10.20am this morning. Unfortunately I was at work and not with him.
Work to live don't live to work
Just to confirm the above:
16/03 12:20 WEST SUSSEX : Osprey, Worthing [S]one flew northwest over A24 at 10:20 (10:20)
Here is a couple from the Faune Aquitaine site:
Sunday, March 14th, 2010Aiguillon - sans lieu-dit défini / Aiguillon (47) 1 Osprey (Pandion haliaetus) [Michel Hoare ] Comment : En migration, vers 18h30. Un autre, moins sûr, quelques minutes plus tard.
Monday, March 15th, 2010Lac de Léon / Vielle-Saint-Girons (40) ≥1 Osprey (Pandion haliaetus) [ Paul Lesclaux ] Detail : 1x female type
Hi Debbie, I see the latest report is also Worthing, so could be the same bird your Husband spotted earlier.
Edit. Memo to self, Must read Alan's post correctly and note it was a confirmation!!!
Does anyone know anything about this osprey spotted at Kielder yesterday?
Tiger Signature
Has anyone heard about the osprey spotted at Kielder yesterday? Its identity has not been confirmed but if it is one of the resident birds it is phenomenal!
Another sighting from Sussex Ornithological Society, perhaps more down Brenda H's way:
" Re Nigel's sighting at Weir Wood. A gamekeeper from Isfield told me that he had seen one flying N up the river (Sussex Ouse) on Sunday so may be the same one".
or perhaps it was looking for Isfield's pub, The Laughing Fish
Sue, Weir Wood is not too far, about an hours drive inland from us. We are near the coast. Friends went yesterday but didn't see it.
Just in:17/03 14:10 NORTH YORKSHIRE : Osprey, Barden Scale Raptor Watchpoint [S]one early afternoon (12:50)
