Osprey Sightings 2010

This is the new thread for posting reports of osprey sightings, whether on the internet, in the press or in real life.

For the benefit of any new or less frequent viewers, it might be helpful if the first person to refer to a regular online source of information, for example Faune-Aquitaine, provided a link and a brief explanation of what the site is about.

Let the migration season commence!

A Scottish osprey was seen at Bassenthwaite in the middle of the week.

That is great news. I'm gettiong quite excited now :)

LoL have their nestcam back on :)

Our ospreys are on their way home and the highs and lows are about to begin again. Would we have it any other way?

Yes the Bassentwaite cam is back online. There you are. See http://www.ospreywatch.co.uk/webcam.htm

I used to visit Kewick when I was very small and lived in Annan.

I can see I'm going to have to add this cam to my webcams page once the ospreys are home.

LG are showing the feedercam. Lots of hungry birds there and even a red squirrel today. Spring is on its way, even if there is still a lot of snow around as well.

  • 14/03 15:22  WEST SUSSEX : Osprey, Westdean Woods  [S]
one flew north mid-afternoon; also ringtail Hen Harrier at 13:30 (14:50)

  • Report of above osprey on SOS website:
"14 Mar 2010 Two parts of Sussex
Three hours at The Burgh this morning. Several Yellowhammers, 10+ Corn Buntings, 5 Song Thrushes, 1 Red-legged Partridge, 20+ Grey Partridge, male & female Reed Bunting and 5 Buzzards. Three hours at Stapleash Farm pm looking for Little Owls but to no avail was rewarded with 1 ringtail Hen Harrier and 1 Osprey!! Quite a day."

  • Alan Latest report is exciting for me as it's on familiar ground - in fact I'm leading a walk to the The Burgh, the other place mentioned, this Sat.

So, an osprey crossing the South Downs on Sunday afternoon, probably after a fishing stop in Chichester Harbour, would most likely roost somewhere west of London and could easily reach Rutland Water later today, especially if it was "home"...............

  • Another in Sussex Sue C:

    Hot off the press:
15/03 10:12 EAST SUSSEX : Osprey, Weir Wood Reservoir [S]
    one over north (09:31)

  • Hi Alan,

I saw that report as well.  I am gutted as my local patch is Weir Wood Reservoir but I'm stuck at work as usual.  Great to see the Ospreys coming in.

Work to live don't live to work

  • And another:

    15/03 15:10  LINCOLNSHIRE : Osprey, Saltfleetby NNR  [S]
one over Theddlethorpe All Saints over Long Eau TF453886 (14:30)

  • It really is wonderful!!!

Had the pleasure of watching a flock of  fieldfares on my neighbour's tree yesterday. I have never seen them around my home in Bangor Co Down in my 33 years living here.
