This is the new thread for posting reports of osprey sightings, whether on the internet, in the press or in real life.
For the benefit of any new or less frequent viewers, it might be helpful if the first person to refer to a regular online source of information, for example Faune-Aquitaine, provided a link and a brief explanation of what the site is about.

I was only thinking today that we never get any sightings in Wales! lol Was it Rothes that came down throught the Beacons and past Cardiff last year? Or was it Port Talbot?

Good morning Alan thanks for the osprey sightings and yet more in Dorset.
Also my thanks to all who post osprey sightings. Seems like most of them are or soon will be on migration. Amazing to read one is already in Portugal after a pretty long flight.

Extract from Dorset bird club yesterday:Monday 30th AugustOsprey - probably 5 around Poole Harbour in the Wareham Channel/Arne area including a juvenile, 1 at Morden
Visited Weir Wood reservoir this afternoon and was told of a sighting at around 3pm of an osprey and a honey buzzard fighting over a fish somewhere near the hide. Drat and double drat. Hopefully am going to spend longer there tomorrow so fingers crossed!!
m lake: Extract from SOS for Weir Wood today:
"With an extra day off and good weather, could not resist taking a chance of sighting an Osprey. After a long wait I was rewarded with one circling the west end near the hide for about 5 mins. It made one plunge and came out with a reasonable sized fish then headed east. It was about 14.15 - sorry for those who left a short while before, just two of us saw it."

I must get over to Weir Wood again, and good luck m lake. The reservoir has recently been restocked with trout, which may explain its popularity with ospreys this season. So honey buzzards eat fish - I didn't know that.
I did the walk around Thorney Island yesterday but without seeing an osprey - at least, I think not. There was a BOP sitting on an old landing light which was out of range for my compact binocs. It looked very white chested, but shortly after I met a guy with a telescope - who was equally keen for it to be an osprey - who said it was a light coloured buzzard. Still it was a beautiful day - saw oystercatchers, several kestrels, a sparrowhawk, meadow pipit, a party of long tailed tits feasting on the berries and lots of wheatears, a bird I've never identified before, flitting along the shoreline.
