This is the new thread for posting reports of osprey sightings, whether on the internet, in the press or in real life.
For the benefit of any new or less frequent viewers, it might be helpful if the first person to refer to a regular online source of information, for example Faune-Aquitaine, provided a link and a brief explanation of what the site is about.
Let the migration season commence!

Alan,
Something I meant to ask - I think it was you and jsb that registered with Faune-Aquitaine last year? What are the advantages of doing that - do you gain access to additional info which might be useful? I'm going down there in Sept, so am likely to be looking there quite a bit over the next few weeks.
Had you noticed there are some new sites in the format this year e.g. Faune Charente-Maritime?

Hi SueC . The main advantage of registering is that you can use the search engine and find osprey sightings more easily. There may be other advantages of which I am not aware. I also occasionally get emails about logging sightings which is not really relevant. I am also aware of the other sites eg Charente,Maine,Auverne,Vendee,Loire and Anjou. I am only registered with Aquitaine and Anjou.
This one has a ring R9. Does anyone know this bird:Île Arrouix / Saint-Julien-de-Concelles (44) 1 Balbuzard pêcheur (Pandion haliaetus) [Jean-Luc Gasnier ] Remarque : Possède 2 bagues, 1 métallique à la patte droite (inscription invisible) 1 bague orange avec l'inscription "R9" sur la patte gauche. (voir photo : prise à 250 m)Détail : 1x adulte
Alan Orange rings on the left leg have been the norm on the Loire for the last few years, as you can see from this page of pics from Etang du Ravoir, so it's most likely this bird is a local:

Like jsb, I've been working on a spreadsheet project lately, so perhaps this is the moment to introduce it.
The aim is to list the colour ring IDs of UK ospreys we know of, in case they show up at some point on their travels.
The main sheet, tabbed 2010, is a list of all the ringed birds I could find, that we have had "proof of life" for during this year - they bred, were ringed, or were seen in the UK, or are sat tagged and sending signals.
The "2009 and Prior" sheet is a list of previous years' chicks from LG during EJ's time, plus some from other sites. I might add some more of those, but I’m not planning to go back and list every osprey ring ID that’s ever been published – in the case of previous tenants of the public nests, the chance that they are still surviving is fairly low.
I hope the info is self-explanatory – please let me know of any corrections or additions for the 2010 sheet, with links to the necessary info.
Thanks SueC. I find the whole ringing scheme a total shambles but I suppose you are right , it is probably a French bird. I had a quick look at your spreadsheet and the only ones I know about are at Wigtown. I only know the ring numbers and am awaiting an update on their website. they are BH,BF and BJ.
