First visit today

We enjoyed our first visit to Lakenheath today - a 150-mile round trip from our starting point in Hertfordshire. Many thanks to Les in the Visitor Centre for providing a warm welcome and helpful information on our arrival, and again at the Washland viewpoint later. A big 'thank you' also to the gentleman at the Joist Fen viewpoint who spotted the two cranes far in the distance which we were then able to admire for ourselves through the binoculars. I would never have sighted them without the help of a more experienced pair of eyes. Other highlights today were the heron, great crested grebes, little egrets and whooper swan. Winter has certainly returned this week, but fortunately the easterly breeze was not too severe. I'm glad we made the effort to get ourselves here today..
