A drake Green-winged Teal was in with several hundred Common Teal on the reserve at Hesketh Out Marsh this morning. The high tide of 10+ metres produced some spectacular birding with 8 Little Egrets, 6 Whooper Swans, 100+ Wigeon, 6 Gadwall, 2 Pintail, 700 Oystercatchers, 50 Golden Plovers, 550 Lapwings, 12 Snipe, 30+ Black-tailed Godwits, 35 Dunlin, a Knot, 2 Greenshank, Redshank and Curlew all present. The fields and hedgerows were lively too with 6 Fieldfares, a Redwing, a SongThrush, 8 Blackbirds and 10+ Long-tailed Tits present and a flock of 33 Jackdaws and a Siskin overhead with many Pink-feet passing over. Raptors included 2 Sparrowhawks and 2 Rock Pipits were on the outer marsh with a Grey Seal on the Ribble.
