Way back in August I had 4 visits from a female sparrowhawk, and nothing since. This afternoon, very late on, this beauty arrived and sat in next door's apple tree for a good 20 minutes. As one might expect, he had his back to me the whole time. However, as I was leaning through the bedroom window by a thread, I decided to whistle. Yeah!! He heard and turned his head.
He spied a potential meal and went bottoms up, flashing a lot of orange and white, but decided better of it (I think it was next door's collie dog). He then settled down for a nap, all fluffed up like a cuddly teddy.
It was almost dark by this time and I have struggled to get a decent photo. If anyone can do anything with these pictures for me, please feel free.
Cheers, Linda.

Hi Sparrow, they are brilliant photos. Very well done. However, I do think you have pulled an unfair trick on the rest of us by only promising to buy your camera if the shop provided a wide range of enviable newbies for you to photograph!!!!! LOL
Seriously, though, the photos are absolutely okay as they are - lovely, in fact. Lucky, lucky girl!
The necessity of bird-watching is a really good reason for avoiding all forms of housework.
The dust will still be there tomorrow - the birds may not be!
Wow Sparrow,
Nice pics of your Sparrowhawk.Once a year for the last two years we have had a Sparrowhawk doing the rounds in our garden, ours is a brown one so i think it is a juvenile. You are getting some lovely shots with your new camera.
Best wishes
Littleowl
OMG sparrow,
As they say " If you feed them they will come", oh wait that's not right! LOL
Hey farmer, farmer, put away the D.D.T now. Give me spots on my apples, but leave me the birds and the bees, please!
Hi Sparrow, great photo! Love the term "cuddly like a teddy" to describe a Sparrowhawk!!
What did you do? put an ad out "Calling all birds free food in return for a good piccie"!! LOL Since this new camera came there's no stopping you. I can't wait for the next batch.
Regards
Kerry

My hubby now calls me David Bailey!!! I wish. I bet David Bailey didn't do the washing up with a camera slung round his neck.
Thanks everyone for your comments. I do appreciate them, even though I know you are being a bit over generous.
Well, he does look like a cuddly teddy to me!
Littleowl – I’m sure you will have as much fun with your new camera as I’m having.
He wasn’t watching my garden – all the birds had vacated for some strange reason, I can’t imagine why … he was watching the hedge that divides next door from the fields. This is where the blackbirds seem to go. He was quite vocal at one point, and it was so funny when he went bottoms up. I did get a photo but it is all blurry. This one most certainly should be consigned to dusty bin.
Thanks Sparrow, brilliant photographs. Are you prepared to sell your secret of how you are enticing these birds? I can't wait for tomorrow's shot.
