Just to let you know this vistor made an appearance yesterday in my garden. I was so excited!! Mind you I had to have a good zoom to get this.
A gorgeous Woodcock that stayed for 2 hours and had a good dig and got a few insects out under the trees and a drink in my pond.
Well I have to say that that tops all the 'surprise visitors' mentioned on here so far!! Nice one and well done for getting pics too!!

WOW.............! Very cool
For viewing or photography right place right time is everything. I'd rather be in the right place with poor kit than have the best kit and be in the wrong place.
Absolutely superb. I'd almost chop my left arm off to get a bit of that action!!!
I was over the moon. Thank you for all your replies.
Here's a last picture before the woodcock left of it fully facing the house.
How fantastic. Brilliant photos.

Once again, thanks for great photographs.
Hello louloudi,
Welcome to Communities and what are fabulous way to start with such an unusual visitor to your garden. I had one visit my garden just after Christmas, living in a built up area, I had to do a double take! With the weather like it is at the moment, birds are struggling to find food and shelter and garden settings often provide both. Woodcocks eat worms, beetles, snails and spiders. One can only hope that the ground begins to thaw soon, so these stunning birds can get to food far easier.
Thanks for sharing these photos and I do hope you enjoy this forum.
