Hi there
I have moved about a lot these days, and I have a lot of different experiences with birds, birdfeers, birdboxes and wildlife
The one haunting experience I have had was with a Tawny Owl
Dave and I where living in Aberdeenshire at the time in a remote cottage in a small estate. It was quiet and wild in its own way. Lots of Owls and Foxes everywhere in the conifer wood nearby.
One night I could not sleep well, and I went downstairs into the kitchen. It was wintertime, frosty and cold. There was a silvery moon and twinkly stars outside and it produced a shaft of light into the kitchen area. I looked outside and I could see a shape of a large bird sitting on top of our Bird Table,
The bird was still as could be, and did not move at all. From the distinctive shape and size of the bird I was looking at a Tawny Owl.
He remained on his perch for a while. I am sure he was hunting mice, Voles, Shrews or Rats which where eating the bird seed from under the bird Table
I will never forget the experience and just simply to see the outline ofthe Owl gave me goosebumps to this day.
Fabulous sighting really pleased to have seen it all happening in front of my own eyes.
Great experience. {big smile}
Regards
Kathy and Dave
Tawny Owls are great, I hear them around here quite often.
My aunt used to get a load in her garden when she rented a farm cottage - they used to come down to scavenge from the rodents the cats had caught! Though someone did try insisting that they do not scavenge, she would sit and watch them start to come into the garden at around dusk and go to the ground to collect the remains.

That is one of those bird moments you never forget Kathy. I would have probably turned the outside light on and then realised too late, as the Tawny flew away.
What a fantastic experience to have Kathy, thanks for sharing it with us :o)
KatTai, I would imagine if there was free food on the offering the Tawny Owls would go for it by all means - I bet that was a sight to behold too!
I usually take my car for a run out to Bridgnorth, Shropshire and along the Bridgnorth Road I have encountered plenty flying over the car - I just wish I could get a better look at them :o)
