Hi there
How are people coping with the bad snow at the moment?
Dave managed to get to work from Bedford to Glasgow this morning - thank goodness.
Love to hear what we all have to say about the white stuff,
Time to get all the thoughts of our chests
Regards
Kathy and Dave
We had snow all day yesterday in the West Midlands, heavy at some points but mostly just a steady falling of the stuff. Woke up this morning to it snowing again so we're up to about 3, maybe 4 inches.
Although I hear in Worcester they had 7. Then there's the Abernethy nature reserve in the Cairngorms - home to Loch Garten's ospreys - is under a metre of snow http://www.rspb.org.uk/community/blogs/lochgartenospreys/archive/2010/01/05/happy-new-year.aspx
It makes me think when the weather gets like this how much of a laughing stock we must be to the rest of the world, they had inches and inches about 10, over night I think) in Washington and New York, they'd cleared the roads before morning and everyone carried on!
I do worry about the birds when its like this, I got up early this morning and made sure there was plenty out for them. They have my home made suet balls, apples, peanuts, sultanas, suet nibbles and seed. Although oddly enough other than the blackbirds and a few starlings and sparrows, its been quite quiet.
We have had snow overnight here and it is 1/2 an inch so it is not very deep. The sky looks full of snow at the moment and I know there will be more of it yet.

Love the fact you saw Hares - oh you are very lucky. What a bind with the camera. It just shows that wildlife has a habit of springing up at the wrong moment.
Sparrow: Your snow seems to be deeper than what we have had here. I think the Sparrows want to preserve energe so they are feeding form the ground feeders for that reason. You may have something tastier in the ground feeders so they are more attracted to the Ground Feeders for that reason.
Brenda: Wow with the branches breaking with the weight of the snow. That shows how deep it is.
My mum lives in Edinburgh, and she is really exposed to all weather coming in form the Pentland Hills. She lives up a hill. The odd thing is that it can be snowing heavily where she stays and a mile a the end of the same road at the the of the same hill there is little snow. Shows how steep the layout of Edinburgh is - as it is built on a 'dead' volcano, and it is very hilly for that reason,
Susan H said: We had more snow overnight here in E. Lancs, and like our friends in the more northern regions, we have had it since before Christmas, with temperatures not going about freezing even during the day, so ice was the problem. Now we have had 2 days of snow the pavements are easier to walk on as the snow is crunchy, but solid ice underneath the snow. There were 250 schools closed yesterday, and apparently there are 400 closed today. I have noticed my feeders are being left untouched. Just the mesh trays are being used. Most birds including all my sparrows are feeding off the ground. I wonder why? Any suggestions?

It is still snowing here but just thought I would let you know that we have been trying to keep the front drive clear and my preparation for 'Dancing on Ice' is going very well. My front / back slide and even twirls are excellent and I manage these all without skates, just in my wellingtons.
Hi Brenda,
Be careful, or someone may just sign you up for the programme, especially if you can do it all in wellies!
Cheers, Linda.

Welcome to the Tropic of Berkshire !
I reckon we've had 7 to 8 inches and it's still snowing hard.
We don't usually get much snow in the Thames valley but we're going for broke this winter in order to shake off that image of being "southern softies".
We're really quite hard. I even ventured round to the garage to get the shovel but decided there was no point trying to clear the drive so I had another lie down instead.
Birds are coping better than me.

LOL Brenda!
Hi everyone
We in Essex got the snow today. It started on and off before we got up albeit not very much. Started snowing again with gusto mid morning and even worse this afternoon. School closed so home now and really thankful. Although when I left the school we hardly had any snow and according to the forecast weren't going to until tonight so the lot we've just had is a real surprise. If this freezes I doubt there will be school tomorrow either.
It's a bit of worry as my Dad's in hospital at the moment and we have no way of getting in to see him.
Keep warm everybody and take care.
xx

Kezmo, so sorry. I can imagine how important it must be to you, to be able to see your Dad. We were forecast to have a respite this afternoon 'till this evening, but it hasn't stopped all day. Big Hug from me.
Ah bless your heart Brenda - thank you!
hi Kezmo
Hope that you manage to see you dad as asap.
As Brenda has already said a huge hug from me too
An extra {Hug} to you
Lovely snowy pictures everyone.
Juno, the bird table looks great next to your patio set up. May it bring lots of extra birds! As for the burial, graveyards are exposed places at the best of times. I hope all goes as it should with no mishaps.
Hope everyone is safe and manages to keep warm.
