What better place to watch wildlife during those cold blustery winter days, from the warmth of your own living room (or kitchen). Though the snow over Christmas has undoubtedly caused chaos on the roads and paths, it has given rise to some more pleasant surprises. For example, over christmas, I had a Woodcock in my garden! I live in a built-up area, miles from any woodland cover and have never before seen such a migrant in this area.
So has anyone else had any unusual winter visitors in their garden this christmas?
Hi Mrs T
Would love to see a Woodcock! how lovely.
Although not unusual for many, I was delighted to see a Pied Wagtail in my garden yesterday feeding along with the other birds. Have only ever seen them in the supermarket car parks and down on the promenade.
Also had a Green Woodpecker in my front garden on Christmas Day rooting about - So thanks Santa for sending him to me as it's been on my wsh list for ages!
Regards

Hi Kezmo,
What great Christmas presents - a pied wagtail and a green woodpecker. Brilliant.
My wish for Christmas Day was for a robin to sit on my snow-covered patio table, which is right outside our dining room, whilst we were eating our dinner. I got my wish, but only fleeting. A robin landed, followed by another. They had a scrap and fell off the table!
Cheers, Linda.

Hi Sparrow
LOL! Aah how lovely though to have had even a fleeting glimpse of them, very Christmassy!
Hi all - hope you're all recovering from the extra eating!
Hurray, saw a wren in the garden today, I'd been getting worried as I hadn't seen one for a few weeks. Getting bolder in this weather I expect, as it was pecking under the door sill of the conservatory.
Now the snow has gone, the back garden has stopped looking like a butcher's yard from the red apple and berry stains!
Apart from the wren, nothing new in the garden, though when dog- walking with two friends they suddenly said "oh, look at that!" I (of course!) looked up - "where? where?" only for them to say "the kingfisher! in the stream!" Of course it had flashed away by then! So I won't claim that as a sighting.
