When I make any pastry I always cook all the extra I've made (I always make too much!) plus all the trimmings and put it all out on our front lawn together with all leftover food from pasta to chips. It's standing room only with seagulls rooks and magpies!
This morning I counted no less than six long-tailed tits on our nut-feeder!

My wife has cooked her extra pastery for years and we put it out for the birds. Yesterdays offering saw lots of blackbirds and when it had all gone they lined up at the patio doors as if asking for more.
Haha our dog gets the spare pastry, though at first she didn't seem to know what to do with it!

Hello Elizabeth
Hello Roger
Welcome to the forum.
Never tried pastry - my baking isn't up to much that;s probably why but it's obviously a success for the birds, how lovely.

Welcome to you both from me too! I don't 'do' pastry either but they get plenty of other scraps!

Hi Elizabeth
Hi Roger
Welcome to the forum to you both from me as well. Why, oh why didn't I think of that! I have lost count of the amount of pastry scraps I have thrown away, whether it be homemade or the ready-rolled stuff. Many thanks for the tip. I will remember for next time.
The necessity of bird-watching is a really good reason for avoiding all forms of housework.
The dust will still be there tomorrow - the birds may not be!
The birds aren't fussy ... they like shop bought just as much as home made pastry!!! (especially if it is the remains of an apple pie). I put half an apple pie out this morning for the blackbirds. All I got at first was a curious carrion crow, but then the blackbirds found it. I watched them take large pieces from the tray and carry it to the saftey of under a bush to eat , then return for some more. This was in preference to some raisins I had put out.
I am very ashamed to admit I don't ever remember making pastry.
Cheers, Linda.

Hello Elizabeth. Hello Roger.
I am afraid the birds would starve if they were dependant on my baking skills !
What a good idea- its unfortunately only too easy to pop the trimmings into my mouth, or drop them on the floor for a dog who gets too many 'treats' anyway. The birds will get a share from now on.
