Breaking puddles

While out with the dog I saw a blackbird pecking around a frozen puddle, he flew off as I approached and as it looked as if he was after water I cracked open a few puddles just in case he was in need of a bit of a drink.  Though why he was after muddy puddle water rather than the clearer water in the burn that wasn't far away I have no idea!

  • Hi KatTai

Funny that you have said that - we provide our bird friends with fresh water each day, and they choose the muddiest puddle that they can find LOL

I remember seeing Swallows picking up mud from the side of a puddle with thin broken ice around one year.  It repeated doing the same thing for a few times.  Great to see Swallows collecting building material for their nests in front of my eyes.
