Hi there
Not been on much on RSPB Forum as PC problems continue, and a horrible cold LOL at the moment.
Hope everyone is well! {smile}
Anyway having the cold have given me time to observe my birds using my Window Feeder. The House Sparrows are too scared to sit in the box.
So now I have a Blue Tit showing how it is done. He/she is churring out of my bedroom window every morning.
Now, I spend all of my time placing food on the wall and the ground at the moment.
I wonder if the Sparrows will get the hang of the window Feeder?
Have anyone else have similar problems with shy birds using Window Feeders?
Regards
Kathy and Dave
Hi Ian
I think you have hit on a sensible thought about the string - we have a few branches to tie the string too.
We will think of something so that the feeder is a little more secure than it is.
I always have noticed when the window feeder decides to fall to the ground, it is usually when there is high winds.
So it speaks volumes about the lightweight design of the feeder.
Squirrel - thank you for the link. I am having a good think about this. I think I may be being greedy wanting the birds even closer, when my main feeding station is only next to the patio and in full view of all the back doors and windows!
Cheers, Linda.

What about strong magnets? Put a bit of metal in the feeder and the magnet against the glass.
Then again it will block the view slightly, might not work if you're double glazed...and you might not like the idea of sticking a magnet on the inside of your window, LOL!
Hey, I tried ;-)
Paul, am I being dumb, but if I did that, wouldn't I have to keep hold of the magnet?

I was just guessing to be honest. Was wondering if it would work as a sort of back-up incase the suction cups gave way.

OH that's a REALLY good idea! I have strong magnets for a platform in my geckos vivarium and it holds tight as anything, I think that could work pretty well and I don't think it would obstruct the view too much either. The only danger with magnets is that they don't half hurt when they close on your finger lol There is two magnet circles on the platform and a magnets that goes on the other side of the glass. Apparently the magnet is strong enough to go through about 1cm wood/glass so could work on a window.

Oh I could have come up with a good idea in the end, LOL!
I'd imagine if they were the right sort of magnets - like what you have it seems. It should work.
Just be careful of your fingers! :o)

I think we should erase all this and start working on a prototype model ready for the market and we could make our fortune! lol
hi Kat
Yes, a new window Feeder to show Dragons Den LOL
Seriously there needs to be an overhaul of window feeder so they are more secure on the window area.

Haha yeah, I bet they'd be impressed! Current window feeders aren't much food unless you have something to other than just the suction cups. Magnets could be the answer!
