I have always found jays to be shy and quite solitary - making rare and fleeting visits to our suburban garden (near Stockport). This summer I was amazed on a couple of occasions to see a small flock (6?) of jays visit the garden and nearby trees - some landed in the garden whilst others hopped from branch to branch. I assumed that it was a family although the "youngsters" (if that's what they were) seemed a good size.
Has anyone seen similar activity with jays?
Welcome Rivelino!
How wonderful to have these jays visit! They are stunning birds! Was in woods yesterday and heard plenty but they remained hidden as usual!
IanH - Not knowingly heard a jay mimicking! Very interesting! I too would love to know if anyone else has experienced this!

In the winter months I put a few peanuts on the ground where the jays like to feed and they come in immediately and eat them all up. I think they must watch from the woods because the minute I go back into the kitchen they are there and don't leave until all the nuts have gone!
I haven't heard them making a mewing noise like the Buzzard but maybe it is them and not the Buzzard I think I'm hearing when I walk thru the woods each morning! They are very noisy and although they have stayed together so far they do screech and shout at each other a lot.
