Hi there
I know it is getting late in the year, but has anyone seen any butterflies/Moths which they never expected to see at all. {smile}
We got some lovley pictures from Spain this year, but we where limited to the UK species as I was not able to walk for a while.
Usually I take pictures of butterflies in the garden but not this year {sad}
Any stories or pictures to share anyone. (thumbs up}
Regards
Kathy and Dave
Hi Kathy
There was a "something" fluttering around in my yard for a while this afternoon. Unfortunately it was fluttering right next to the back door which opens outwards so, having watched it for a few minutes, I risked opening the door and the expected duly happened - it fluttered off! All I can tell you is that it was about two thirds the size of a peacock and the colouring was either deep burgundy or purple. I am hoping it may return tomorrow - in which case I will be ready for it.
The necessity of bird-watching is a really good reason for avoiding all forms of housework.
The dust will still be there tomorrow - the birds may not be!
Hi Blackbird
I can say without doubt we have Red Admirals still around and Pieridae, saw them in our garden and also as we took a walk down to the estuary today, I saw them fluttering by.

Hello,
I was surprised to get a red admiral on my balcony just yesterday, and saw another at the garden centre later in the day. The wildlife doesn't seem to know what time of year it is any more! Today feels much cooler so maybe autumn's here at last...

We saw a red admiral in our garden yesterday. We were watching the local news earlier tonight and they showed that one of their cameramen had photographed one of his apple trees that was in blossom !!
Red Admiral here in S-W Scotland too - last seen yesterday - enjoying sunshine and Cosmea flowers.
Rhododendron bloomed again in late September!
Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!
Red admirals and small tortoiseshells still about in Shropshire!

The only ones I have seen over the past week have been what my Dad called Cabbage Whites (large white, I assume!).
Hi gang,
Saw a Speckled Wood at Harden (Yorks) yesterday. A double surprise: firstly to see it and and secondly that I knew what it was!
Also plenty of insects taking an interest in my new hawthorn tree on the balcony, including honeybees and hoverflies. A big fat spider has also taken up residence to cash in on the flying feast. Yum.
There's a beautiful red admiral basking in the sun on the gravel drive in front of my office right now. Wish I was out in the sun instead of being stuck in here!
There is something new to learn everyday...
