Mum has a lot of blackbirds in her garden (up to 15 at times) and inevitably, a few have became slightly tamer than others. During the breeding season and throughout the winter, Mum puts soaked sultanas out in a bowl on the patio and 3 or 4 of them have learnt that if there are none outside, there will be a second bowl on top of the freezer just inside the back door, ready to put out.... from which they help themselves!!
Anyone else have critters that help themselves (apart from the mice that is!! Lol!!)

I know of a couple of other folk who "share" their homes with shrews and they don't mind because shrews aren't destructive. Apparently, though, woodmice are - chewing through cables etc. so, sweet though they may be, humane repatriation is by far the healthiest option for your wallet if you happen to see those scampering around.
The necessity of bird-watching is a really good reason for avoiding all forms of housework.
The dust will still be there tomorrow - the birds may not be!

Hi, what a lovely story - unfortunately we don't get shrews - in fact I have never seen one in real life, just mice (daily basis brought in by the cat). Are you actively feeding the shrew or is it scavenging? Unlike some I really don't mind mice or shrews and if we were guaranteed only the one, then I would possibly leave it be. I just love the door mouse, with its large ears and plump little body.

Here is our tame Blackie coming for his red grape as soon as we were up in the morning he would be there waiting on the step.He came in and helped himself to the fruit bowl on the worktop.

Hi M&J and welcome from me also. Great photo. It seems there are a lot of really rather tame blackbirds out there. Shame I have four that are anything but!

We haven’t been feeding it so far but as I know it eats sunflower hearts and peanuts I am going to put a few down for it. The shrew has to eat 125% of its body weight each day to survive, I’m not brilliant at housework but I’m sure there aren’t that many spiders etc lurking in the house.
