Problem House Mice

Anonymous
Anonymous

Hi there

We are having trouble with house mice at the moment - cute and cuddly as they are.

Mr Mouse is on the move again from a month ago. OH and I have seem Mr Mouse appearing all over our house in the last 2 days. You can see him moving at the corner of your eye - little devil. He is getting everywhere at the moment!

I was sitting at the PC tonight, and I could hear some rustling going on in my cupboards in the kitchen. We do not have biscuits or anything like crisps around, but the rustling sounded like a crisp bag. I called OH through and the little monkey disappeared all together.

So I went back and sat at the PC once more and there is more of the same rustling. So I stayed at the PC, and called OH through and he looked in the cupboard, and caught the mouse eating a bag of pasta in the cupboard - brazen little grrrr !

There is fresh mouse poo in our cupboard, and I will not tolerate that at all.

So now it is a war of mice and men. Mr mouse will have to go now.

Should I do it the humane way, or another way?

Thoughts please {hmmm ..}

Regards
Kathy

  • Hi all,

    Sorry Blackbird (I don't wish to make you jealouse) but I caught another just this morning!  Came down the stairs to find the cat laying across the hall floor purring his head off.  Called to OH "he's got another one has he?".   Under the stairs tucked away in the corner by a cupboard we have a shredder.  For some reason the cat loves to drop them off near to it.  It's quite funny really as we are so casual about it now......get the torch, get the jug (I hasten to say we have an "old" jug we use)...start gently moving things around.  Anyhoo just as I was about to give up something made me look more closely at the shredder and lo - poor little mite was clinging to the top of the wire mesh basket.   Off  we go into the garden and like another's post it goes under the shed - this is our favourite place for releasing them so I do wonder if we have just a few who pick straws to see whose turn it is to be caught or whether we have hundreds!!  I really should release them away from the house but when you are in your dressing gown at 6 in the morning a car drive doesn't always appeal!

  • Hi Squirrel this story is for you!  I think you'll appreciate it more as it concerns squirrels.

    Sorry to go on but I do have lots to say about mice generally!!

    Like you I also feed the squirrel.  I have a plant pot (the ones you get from the nursery) tied to our apple tree and I put monkey nuts in it.  Very early one morning (still quite dark outside) I was doing my morning duty of feeding the birds and filling up the plant pot.  As I finished the last feeder I noticed something out of the corner of my eye.......there was a monkey nut coming out of the plant pot and was slowly travelling down the branch of the apple tree.  Very bizzarre to say the least.  When I walked closer I could see a mouse had it in its mouth. I stood and watched she/him until it reached the ground and took the nut under the shed.

    hi Kezmo

    Oh goodness, you must have the Mouse touch.  How do you do it LOL

    The cat knows a trick or too.  Must be a good mouser to have.  He does not tease the prey too much.   We do not have a cat ourselves - if only at the moment. {sigh}

    I can see what it would be like to drive a car in your jim jams, and the pink fluffy slippers LOL {not good in the morning}

    We have a spare jug ot two here so we will be armed at the weekend and waiting for action stations along with OH.

    No Mr Mouse yet, but this is the point of the day I am more likely to see him -  just before it gets dark - so he will tease me to chase him as always - little monkey. {wink}

    Hi Kezmo - superb story. Thankfully we've never had a problem with mice (despite the starlings scattering the food all over the floor in the yard) but next door (they of the evil cat I have to keep booting out of our property) often have a problem, despite the cat, as they have rabbits in the yard. That almost seems like justice to me - they've got the evil cat and they also get the mice ☺

    The necessity of bird-watching is a really good reason for avoiding all forms of housework.

    The dust will still be there tomorrow - the birds may not be!

    Now that is very funny! I wonder why the shredder! Perhaps your cat fancies some 'shreddies' mice!! Lol!!

    Superb stories from everyone!

    This is about my most memorable 'encounter' with another tiny critter!

    Some years ago I was staying with my Aunt down in Kent and she has 2 siamese boys (brothers). They often bring wildlife indoors, mostly alive (once my aunt had a partridge in the dining room to catch!). Anyway, on this particular day, one of the boys had brought in a shrew! I helped her to corner it and as it has gone under a bookcase, I got on my hands & knees to try & encourage it out. He did come out, but then he shot up my trouser leg!! Knowing this little critter's bite reputation! I jumped up but he didn't shift! I was also worried about squashing him! My aunt yelled to get out in the garden quick and there, my only option was to drop my trousers at which point he jumped out & scurried away! I wonder what the neighbours thought with me with my trousers round my ankles and both of us shrieking with laughter!!

    Squirrel - It had to be a Sunday paper Exclusive !

    Meanwhile, we presume Blackbird is still co- habitating with her mouse waiting for Hubby to come home!!!

  • Hi all - have loved coming back from a few days out of the office to see the mouse related chain expanding - VERY amusing stories - love it! Kezmo's tale of the mouse and the ofsted visit sounds remarkably like a certain episode of a well know 1970's comedy programme set in a Torquay Hotel :o)

    MarJus: Brillant story - got me in a fit of giggles - the thought of a mouse up anyone's trouser leg would give anyone reasomn to let out a high pitched shreak!! {eek}

    Brenda: Yes, my little mouse is still here - funnily enough i have not seen him as much over the last day or so.

    Last night, a plastic bag with some books in it -  started to rustle on the floor by itself.  I think he is in hiding now and has gone a little shy with me  at the moment {must have heard me talking about him} in a whisper.

    Wonder if he knows I am after him {watchful eye}

    OH is coming home armed and extremely dangerous with his mouse gear on!!
