I thought you might like to meet my "terrible two". They have been regulars for over two years now and this summer, produced at least four youngsters. One I was definitely able to identify as male and one as female but the others I do not know as I haven't seen them for a while. Once they started flying, Mr C was very much the dutiful father - bringing them along to show them the best location for food (my yard) and also continuing to feed them.
Mr C is not the most co-operative, photo-wise. He hops around like a jumping bean so catching him on camera can be a trying experience.
Mrs C, on the other hand, is a trial for a different reason - she LOVES having her photo taken. As soon as she hears the click of the camera she is there, skittering around on the roof of the feeder table directly outside my dining room, posing and posturing - do you want this side..., or THIS side..., or shall I look straight at you... etc. Never mind that I happen to be trying to take a picture of a dunnock - she is there, getting into shot!
The necessity of bird-watching is a really good reason for avoiding all forms of housework.
The dust will still be there tomorrow - the birds may not be!
Brilliant post Squirrel and very nice shots, chaffies in my garden won't keep still, I really like the female shots real quality. Well taken, look forward to more, shame about the feeding shot. Never mind I'm sure that one will come too one day.

For viewing or photography right place right time is everything. I'd rather be in the right place with poor kit than have the best kit and be in the wrong place.
Wow! Great pics Squirrel!! Chaffies are such pretty birds and often overlooked! It seemed to be the most common bird when I was in Perthshire in May! They were everywhere!!

YES! I felt that, me without a good photo too, they just move quickly in my garden! :-(
Fantastic pictures! :)
Hi Squrrel
Love your chaffinch pictures any day - Mrs C looks a picture princess.
They are just the most endearing little birds, and even though they are the most numeros of most bird species. Who could get bored with their enchanting calls, and their sweet natures. When you encounter one in a reserve they are so easy to recognise by their call, and they do not stop the notes in that one call until it has ended. Never tire of them at all.
Mr C looks his best in his breeding plumage, and that colouration on his chest is beautiful.
Thank you for introducing us to your favourite bird friends.{thumbs up}
Regards
Kathy and Dave
Fantastic photos Squirrel,
I could only dream of getting photos like that with ours Chaffinches, they move so quickly in and out of the bushes that even if I was set up and ready to go, I would still miss them!

Hi Squirrel
Looking forward to seeing a lot more of your beautiful pictures of your 'favourite' Chaffinches
How are they doing? Are they in your garden at the moment?
