I was hanging out washing this morning and happened to look up and thought I saw two swallows fly over could this be possible having not seen any lately I assumed they had all migrated.
A pair of swallows once built their nest in the cabin of my brother's boat. He was very tentative the first time he had to take the boat to sea fishing, and would have been quite willing to turn back if either chicks or parents seemed distressed. However, the swallows must have done this before! They were not at all put out by the situation, and actually seemed to enjoy their outings in the boat.

Nice pics Squirrel! Yes, we still have swallows around in Lincolnshire, but not quite so many and flying nearer the roadside verges rather than over fields as they were earlier in the summer.

The photo's of the Swallows are just great, they just don't seem to mind people at all do they.
What is interesting to me is that pictures 1 and 2 were taken in the morning and pictures 3 to 7 in the afternoon (of the same day). And yet in both pictures 1 and 5 that same fledgling is peering over the same side of the nest, in exactly the same way, looking for parent with food - despite the fact that duing the day they had all left the nest and "stretched their legs" by having a little walk along the rafters! Creatures of habit...?
The necessity of bird-watching is a really good reason for avoiding all forms of housework.
The dust will still be there tomorrow - the birds may not be!
I'm heading out along the river Tees this afternoon, Low Coniscliffe. Last Sunday there were a great many swallows around , I'm really interested to check today if they've left yet. The now cooler nights might of been the signal to leave.
Also, I hoping to see the pair of Yellow Wagtails which are around Manfield Scar on the River.
Cheers

If we destroy the planet, we destroy ourselves

It seems that they are a bit like us with our favourite chair perhaps!!

I hadn't thought of that. But now you mention it, several of the birds which visit my four feeder tables have a preferred table and, in addition, always go to the same spot on that table - despite the fact that all tables contain the same feeds.
Squirrel
They are still here, but they are gathering and getting ready to move south.
For viewing or photography right place right time is everything. I'd rather be in the right place with poor kit than have the best kit and be in the wrong place.
I look out today and we still have House Martins and one or two Swallows.
