Hi Allison,
That's actually a Woodcock not a Snipe. They do sometimes turn up in gardens but most often in freezingn weather. Qute unusual at this time of year I would have thought. Lovely bird to see.

If we are going to find downed Woodcock it tends to be this time of year as they are migrating through at night - fog causes them a lot of confusion as do lights on glass. Let it rest today if you can and hopefully it will be on it's way tonight if the fog lifts

Oh thanks for correcting that. I was quite amazed and pleased to see it.
It did look tired although walked about a bit so not injured. A magpie investigated it but left it alone. Hope it made it out of the city before the fireworks began.
