We have noticed 8 or more lesser redpolls in the garden this year. Are they common in gardens now?
Hi Lesley,
we are seeing a lot of them this winter together with flocks of siskins which are also quite common in gardens this year. This could be to do with lack of resources in their regular overwintering grounds.
Well that’s interesting because they have taken over our sunflower seed feeder. They started with three Redpolls and now there are more than eight spending nearly all day feeding and sitting in our trees. They are such lovely little birds. The rest of the bird community still manage to feed too so they are a great addition and interest to us. We have both sexes so that’s quite reassuring. I am glad they can feed somewhere but it is worrying that they are short of food in the fields.
