This photograph was taken at lunchtime today 10th November - it is a standard rose and I took the chance and gave it an extra feed right at the end of the feeding period and here we are with a lovely display. Had a look around the garden and found there was still quite a lot of other summer colour still about as well which hopefully will make the winter seem a lot lot shorter when it gets here!
Hi Marjus - I remember one year in Shawbury the snow was in 6' drifts along the road into the village which I had to walk thru as I worked at rapra and it was so cold you could see the frost sparkling in the air - just like the icicles you buy to put on the Christmas Tree - it was very beautiful. Hoar frosts are fantastic and also you birds and wildlife that venture our are very easy to spot as everything is so clear and sharp. I do like to watch ducks walking on the ice when the ponds freeze over (how unkind is that!)
Good grief!! 6' drifts??? Have never seen anything like that except when in the Alps when I lived in France! I agree about the clarity of the air when it's very cold! Hence why I appreciated last winter so much more than the usual ones we get and like this one's going to be I think (milder, windier and wetter!)

Nooooo - don't say that MarJus. I want snow, lots of lovely white snow. With all this rain, everything in my garden is now not so much flowering as learning to swim!
The necessity of bird-watching is a really good reason for avoiding all forms of housework.
The dust will still be there tomorrow - the birds may not be!
Normally when I go out to feed the birds in the morning, it is still dark but this morning I overslept so when I eventually ventured outside I was able to see much more. As I opened the shed door, I got a wiff of a slight fragrance on the air. I knew it wasn't me so looked around and found to my delight my Mexican Orange Blossom was in full flower. This is the third time it has flowered this year!

It is surprising what is still in flower.Kaffir Lilies are still putting on a good show, and my Tutsan cultivar(Hypericum) still had a flower on it last time I looked and pansies aare still braving out the winter wetness.
If we make a world unfit for the birds to live in we will make a world unfit for ourselves.

FAB
only one of my hebe, nice though
Scabious, some of my lavender, a few summer bedding plants, but most of all all my beautiful penstamens.
