Cardiff Wildlife Detectives might be just the club for you!

Come and splash around in your wellies, get together for some pond dipping or get muddy on a minibeast hunt – there’s fun for the whole family. Meeting on the third Sunday of every month, all sessions are led by RSPB Cymru and the City of Cardiff Council Community Park Rangers to help bring you and your family closer to nature all year round. Join us for a single session or as many as you can make.

Over 30 families currently make up the Cardiff Wildlife Detectives group and so far this year we’ve been bird spotting at Cardiff Bay Wetlands, river shuffling at Forest Farm and willow weaving at Bute Park’s Education Centre. Children as young as 2 have found sheer delight in foraging for wild foods amongst the hedgerows, whilst 10 year olds have tested their survival skills through camping in the great outdoors. With something for everyone, the club is a perfect opportunity to go wild in the city!

FAQs

  1. Can children attend on their own? Although all our leaders are DBS checked (safe to work with children) we ask that parents/carers stay for the duration of the session. The great outdoors isn’t just for children and we’d love adults to join in the fun too.
  2. I work on Sundays, can other family members come along? Aunties, Uncles, Grannies or Granddads are all welcome to become Cardiff Wildlife Detectives! All we ask is that you let us know if someone else is coming along with your children so that we know to expect them.
  3. What happens if the weather’s bad? If there is a change in the programme due to severe weather we will always try to contact you in advance. In the extreme case that it’s impossible to go ahead we will always give you a call or a text on the morning of the session.
  4. Do we need to bring anything? All you need to bring is some appropriate clothing for the weather, some excited children (and adults!) and an enthusiasm for nature
