As the capital of Wales, Cardiff is a legendary place. From its iconic Principality Stadium and National Assembly of Wales, to the renowned Wales Millennium Centre and Cardiff Castle, it’s a city famous for its friendly cwtch and warm Welsh welcome.

As we celebrate Visit Wales’ Year of Legends in 2017, RSPB Cymru, the City of Cardiff Council and Migrations invite you to celebrate the legendary wild places of Cardiff by dancing in the capital’s fantastic green spaces. In collaboration with American artist Ely Kim, Boombox Caerdydd will see 100 people being filmed dancing to their favourite music in their favourite green space in the city – celebrating and expressing their connection to nature and the places they enjoy it most.

Boombox Caerdydd is the perfect opportunity for the people of Cardiff to put the spotlight on the spaces that mean something to them – celebrating the places and people that put our legendary city on the map. From our breathtaking Bute Park shaped by landscaping legend Andrew Pettigrew, to Flat Holm – the city’s wild island in the estuary and base for Marconi’s legendary wireless transmission – Cardiff offers a whole host of iconic places where you can dance in the wild. You could commemorate our mythical bluebird by dancing in the grounds of Cardiff’s City Stadium, or in Gorsedd Gardens alongside political legend David Lloyd George. Or perhaps you’d like to honour the mythical Green Man in Thompson’s Park and celebrate the rebirth of nature this spring? The choice is yours. All you need to do is tell us your favourite green space and the track you’d like to dance to and we’ll do the rest.

The beauty of Boombox Caerdydd is that you don’t need to be a professional dancer to get involved, anyone and everyone, young or old, can take part – it’s all about putting on your dancing shoes and having fun. So far we’ve been busy filming some iconic Cardiff residents over the winter for Boombox but as the days get longer and the weather gets warmer, we’re excited to honour our city’s wild spaces as they boom this spring.

Cardiff has many legends, from our beautiful parks and green spaces to our sporting heroes and cultural icons. We’re lucky to live in a city that’s full of iconic people that help to make Cardiff unique. Our Giving Nature a Home in Cardiff project is helping to connect thousands of people with nature across the city and through Boombox Caerdydd we want to celebrate the people that help make Cardiff legendary - honouring both our historic places and our modern day greats.

If you fancy putting on your dancing shoes and being a part of Boombox Caerdydd we would love to hear from you. Please visit http://migrations.uk/Boombox+Cardiff to sign up for free and to watch a short preview. The resulting short film for Boombox Caerdydd will be showcased later this year in Cardiff to honour the city’s communities and wild spaces.
