I did mine this morning and was quite pleased that most of my regulars turned up for thier morning feast.. I have had a rare visit this past few days. when i say rare I mean for time of year, but there is a blackcap calling to my garden this past few days... has anyone else spotted some unusual birds
We've 4 pairs in and around the farm.
A bird in the hand can make an awful mess!
hi yep the back of my garden is the Shropshire Way!
Behind the Hawthorn hedge and just before I had finished my hour some dog scared all my birds away!
It does happen Dogs, cats and buzzards!
Hope the pheasants survived! Micolo

Hi Skillingsbolle, welcome to the community from me in Saddleworth!
@ Micolo, im hoping to get my usuals of tits, robins, starlings and thrushes. I also have collard doves coming to feed! If I get any finches that will be an extra bonus, but Im not holding my breath lol...
Cheers, Jason
I had a pair of collared doves this morning. had goldfinches during the hour i was counting, but later on in the day i got my usual chaffinch visit.Glad i managed to get a lot of birds this morning.. 10 different species.
I had a female chaffinch about ten minutes after my hour? Hope you get a good count as its really up in arms who comes to feed!
Micolo
Hi All,
Did mine this morning but the bright sunshine and soft ground has definitely kept a fair few away today!
I recorded 19 species which is down on a 'normal' daily count that would generally be over 20! Numbers were low also as I only had 4 Blackbirds where as recently I have been counting 9 and up to 13 present at any one time! No Wren today and my Coal Tit duo failed to put in an appearance. Finches Have been numbering 20+ for some time now but I only managed about 10 at anyone time where as normally it would be 10 of each species! BHG will often descend in numbers of 40+ but again not a single bird.....
I always wonder how this is a fair and accurate reflection as on any of the previous days I would have recorded three if not four times the numbers? Maybe a count over a few sessions throughout the year would be more realistic and give a more accurate average?
What does everyone else think?
Best
Higgy
Hi Higgy, Id say you've had a succesful count! Welldone!
Hi Jason,
Don't get me wrong it's a good show but it's just massively lower than what I see on a daily basis in this garden and on a really good day I would be counting much much more.....
