Hi,
I'm new to the site and look forward to participating in the chat rooms and showing some of my work on occasions. I'm a little confused though about the recent RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch campaign - Check out my blog to see what I mean and whether or not you agree! Let me know what you think because I'm confused!

Hi Tim,
Welcome to the community from me in Saddleworth. I can't click on your link for some reason, maybe its my computer I don't know. Looking forward to seeing your photos and hope you enjoy it on here.
Cheers, Jason

Hi Tim, Ive just read your blog and Im wondering why they have used a cat in the ad too! Its as if they saying, oh its ok for a cat to "take" a wren or any birds. 55million is a lot of birds!
Saying that a cat kills 3 birds a year I would imagine is unrealistic! I am a owner of 2 cats and before I got into birding, my cat would bring back a bird a day! This was for about 5 days so obviously 5 birds.... I felt awful. Then I got a collar with a bell on and Im proud to say, no birds captured. I like my cats and I love helping birds, but as a cat owner I would hate to think my cat will kill birds. Therefore I try to prevent any harm. There's no doubt about it, cats and birds do not get along!
So, going back to your blog, why use a cat in the ad?
Thanks Jason, thought it was odd, nothing against cats but could't see the logic! Saddleworth's a good spot to be for birds I should think.
It will be interesting to see other folks opinions! I agree with you, there's no logic.
Saddleworth is a great spot, I'm just round the corner from Dove Stones Reservoir, rspb.
Thanks Alan,
Originally from Liverpool so have visited your area a few times but many years ago, just checked out your flickr site and some great stuff, particularly from the garden. Loved the sparrowhawks and the house martins collecting mud!
I just don't see or interpret it how you do at all.
The way I see it is cats diligently watch birds and that's what we've to do for the bird watch.
I'm thinking all that stuff about the RSPB having an agenda or a sinister game plan is total hog wash.
Oh and I'm not a member of the RSPB. I just happened to join this forum when I signed up for the bird watch survey.
Or maybe I'm lying and I'm on a secret mission for that sinister birdy lot.
We need a rolly eyes smiley here! :-D
A bird in the hand can make an awful mess!
Took a quick peep at your photos and account of Handa Island. One of my favourite places in the world.
Yeh maybe that's it, still dont think they've done themselves any favours though!
Great spot, but would be better without continual rain!
