I am not very good at identifying birds and yesterday there was a bird in the garden, about the size of a Fieldfare. It had a pure grey back and head with a lovely apricot chest. No other markings were visible. I thought at first it was a fieldfare, but I am not sure it was. Can anyone tell me please?
April, I suspect you did see a Fieldfare but the light didnt help with other markings. In the absence of a photo that is the only suggestion I have.

Thank you, Bob. I'm sure you're right. We don't see many Fieldfares here in this part of Northern Ireland, so I don't have much to compare it with.
Sounds like a pretty good description of a Fieldfare. Of course the back is brown but it has a grey rump and the breast although speckled does have a warm blush. Here's a couple of pics of one that visited my garden.
Very handsome birds they are.

Thank you, TeeJay. Yes, I couldn't see the speckling because I was side on and it just sat there and didn't move to face me. They are lovely birds. We may see more here now that the weather is colder on the mainland just now and we have milder weather at present. The birds are still eating me out of house and home just the same. They are stocking up....
Regards.
