Jays in north London

How super - you lucky thing.  Are you near woodland?   I tried to rate you 5 stars but somehow got it wrong and now can't alter it!   Regards Anne

We are a 5 minute walk from Hampstead Heath so maybe they've come from there. This morning we had a robin, 2 magpies, 4 jays and about 10 pigeons!

There are also a lot of Jays arriving here from mainland Europe at the moment. Nearly 300 were logged in just three hours yesterday, coming in off the sea at Cley (north Norfolk), and it's a similar story in Kent. Great photo :)

Lovely to see jays in the garden - or so I imagine, as I've never seen one in mine.

That's interesting, Doggie. I have put some loose peanuts out on my tray recently, so maybe some hungry jay may see them! That is if the jackdaws don't scoff the lot.

Very interesting about the lack of acorns and goes a long way to explain why the jays have appeared  - I always put peanuts out in our garden. Bird seed for little birds and peanuts for the bigger ones. I also have a squirrel who comes (my heart is to big not to feed her) every day; she only has a stump for a tail and I feel sorry for her.

I have one Jay that has returned to my back garden about 10 days ago. I live in Welwyn Garden City and Malms wood is literally across the road from me and Sherrardswood is about 5 minutes walk away.....We also have a massive 100+ year old Oak tree and I collect bags of Acorns for my regular Squirrel visitor and the Jay has been enjoying them as well. I will try to get a photo next time he turn's up
