Last summer I was keeping my eye on our kitten and the neighbour's cat who were both stalking a wood pigeon, who was happily pecking at the spilled seed beneath the bird table. He seemed quite oblivious of the two cats stalking towards him from opposite ends of the shubbery. I was getting ready to shoo him away before they pounced, but unbeknown to me (and them) a bird of prey was also eyeing up the pigeon from above.
Everything happened at once and how I wished I had a camera! The bird of prey swooped at the same time as both the cats leapt at the bird. The wood pigeon had soptted the cats and had started to move, leaving the cats to collide in mid-air, along with the bird of prey who also missed his target. The wood pigeon waddled away from the commotion and then flew serenly away, leaving a tangle of fur, feathers and three very embarrassed predators.
Made me appreciate what a tough life it is being a bird with enemies coming at you from all directions!
