Hi,
I have been having two Herons visit over 3 years now, with one coming every day for the last 6 months and one, just once per week.Over the last 3-4 days there has been no sight of them anywhere which I find so very odd. The smaller one of the two which came probably 3-4 times per day seemed quite at home.Do they just disappear and find new pastures?
It just does not seem the same with them not popping in!
If they have gone to find clear water how do they know which direction to go in? Clear water could be miles away if the water is frozen over.
Kind regards Richard.
Hi Alan,Richard,
Well yes my pond is probably 60% frozen over,I have an air pump running but it is only really in the middle where it cannot freeze!
We have other lakes like Thrapston and Oundle which are 5 to 10 miles away.Guess they are over there then?!
Thank you for replying.
Kind regards
Melissa
There is 1 every morning at 8.30 under a wee bridge into our local park. I look for it everymorning and would miss it. But that is running (shallow) water. Someone gave me a tip to put a football in the pond and the movement stops it freezing over as quick. But saying that it's such low temps just now I doubt if that would even work lol. Good luck hope they return. Linnie x
I put a tennis ball in my bird bath but as you say the low temperatures and no wind it still freezes over.
