During my bird watch there was a pair of sparrows sizing up one of my bird boxes. The male encouraging the female to try the box etc.. This seems very early to me. During this display a blue tit; which is the species that usually uses the box, repeatedly turned up and was seen off by the sparrow. Not seen such a battle before. Is box envy a regular thing, they do have a choice of boxes?
Sadly no Goldfinches this year - where have they gone?
