I seem to be in the same position as many other watchers. Many of my regulars were absent during the survey, i.e., wren, long tailed tits, starlings, great tits, but I did have a sighting of a Redwing just as I was about to finish ! That made up for it. Lo and behold, half an hour later my garden was awash with birds - twice as many sparrows, starlings which weren't there before plus all the usuals. It is just as if they were keeping a low profile and then as soon as I finished - there they were !
One bird that is very much in decline around here in East Yorkshire is the Song Thrush. I haven't seen one for months.
