Normally as soon as I put the food out I have a huge group of starlings and quite a gang of gulls. Today nothing. Just my faithful little Black Redstart (well I think that's what he is). He comes every day. I have taken a picture of him but it is a bit distant.
Yes, male black redstart. Aren't you lucky! Wish I had one in my garden!! :)
Thank you for confirming that. I thought it was but was not sure as there are not many of them about. He's on the bird table now before the starlings take over.
Whereabouts in the UK are you if I may ask (general area)? So lucky to get one in your garden! I still haven't seen a male black redstart in this country. Shame they are so rare. In other countries (such as Germany) they are 'common' birds. Such beautiful little birds. :)
We are in Weymouth, Dorset. He doesn't seem very shy either. he has landed on the fence right next to me when I have been pottering and comes up on the patio. Lovely tail colours.
