A very grey and foggy start to the day. My hours spent on the BGBW went okay. With 9 usual visiting species.
House Sparrows, Starlings, Blue Tits, Great Tit, Collared Dove, Wood Pigeons, Chaffinches, Robins and Blackbirds. But also a 1st time visitor, a Dunnock, my 1st ever Dunnock, i am so glad that i did not do the BGBW yesterday now :)
Also, the 1st sighting of a Starling with an abnormal Beak. I believe this is quite a common thing across different species.
Here are a few images from this morning. Enjoy.
I liked your photos.
Lovely set of pics.
Excellent photos, good use of depth of field to blur the backgrounds.
Thanks Happy & Alan :)
Yes i should do Alan, i`ll head to their site.
I was hoping to get a photo of it with a side view of its head, its beak was a lot bigger than this photo shows, i`d say a good 4 inches + .
Overall it is good to see starling numbers increasing in my garden, only clocked 18 in the garden this morning at the same time but have had as many as 40 around the feeders, if numbers keep on increasing i may even have my own little murmuration display by them before they come in to feed :)
Thanks Cashie and Dai.
I just need to work on getting a cleaner background Dai, very messy my backgrounds half the time
It maybe something to do with me feeding them Mealworms Alan :) I know previously they loved the fat balls and cakes, but now cannot get enough of the mealworms.
Great Shot Alan :)
I know the Starlings that visit here now are not touching the fat balls or cakes as much since it has become a little colder, one reason because of the extra food i put down, but also maybe the balls and cakes become too hard after a frost or days of frost, not sure. During the summer and Autumn the cakes and fat balls have to be filled up every other day and maybe go a week or two without having to refill them at the moment.
