How do I successfully record a large flock of sparrows that are resident in my garden or at least frequent visitors. Do I just count as many as I can at one time and then forget them ? Confused (by sparrows). This also applies to my blue tits and long tailed tits!
Count the feet and divide by two :)
Seriously , if you can snatch a photo of the flock it's easier to count them. I did this successfully with 400 ducks :)

Hahaha! @ Galatas. Hi to all. So if I have 20 sparrows lined up on the fence, they all disappear but return I guess I only count them once even though I cannot be 100% sure they are the same ones although I'm pretty sure because they all sit on the fence when they're not at the bird table. Just don't want to count sixty when there were actually only 20!
I have had the same problem counting so many but i now have one sparrow less a sparrowhawk decided to visit again half way through the bird count
Aw! They get to know where the bird tables are and lunch! I had a hawk almost knock me over chasing a swallow last summer.... came round the corner of the house like a bullet! I even felt the breeze as it swooshed by.
you could just estimate as if there are that many birds, a difference of 1 or 2 will not make that big of a difference
