Our garden was a hive of activity this morning. Along with our usual everyday visitors we had a Jay and Greater Woodpecker visit! I'm so glad that they chose today to visit. They are occasional visitors and it is always a delight to see them. We had a couple of squirrels at the same time and it was sweet to watch the Jay and one squirrel searching the ground for food within feet of each other. Neither found the others presence disturbing. I love watching the happenings of my garden ;o)
Absolutely love seeing the woodpeckers in our garden in Staffordshire however in our previous home in Thatcham we did have a green woodpecker and a jay come to visit. Despite being in a town setting it was a fantastic garden for wildlife - I even came to love the hedghogs noisy antics during the spring and summer.
I'm quite jealous, they are both great species! It would't surprise me if the squirrel was stealing the jays cached nuts, or vice versa!

I have a couple of greater spotted woodpeckers that visit my garden twice a day they love to eat fat cake with mealworms and they have made my old apple trees look like Swiss cheese!
