Ginger cat started stalking the garden halfway through BGBW and scared the solitary goldfinch away. Half an hour after submitting my report all the missing goldfinches arrived and haven't moved away from the feeders since! Fewer birds this year but we've had a very mild winter in Norfolk so hopefully it's just a sign that the birds aren't relying on us so much this year. Disappointed our siskins haven't been around for a while.
Hi Bitternboom. Yep..that's about the size of it! I don't get huge amounts of birds in my small garden and only the usual common ones. I'm sat here doing my BGBW. chuckling at the antics of the greedy starlings hoovering up the raisins and cheese...then...gone. Just noticed next doors' cat sat on the fence! Shooed her off sharpish. My own cat is banished from the windows at the moment! It's been mild here in East Yorkshire too and I'm quite near to farm fields so I think the birds are definitely finding natural food here.
Cheers.
Hi, for us it's the squirrel that did it - I don't yet have a feeder, only a big stone pot to put seeds in. Today a squirrel came and ate all the sunflower seeds, scaring away the birds. Only a lone robin was brave enough to sample the seeds after the squirrel left :)
hi its my first year doin bgbw my garden was quite busy until a sparrowhawk came into garden half way threw it the birds never came back till late afternoon
We decided to do our hour between 10 and 11 yesterday morning. 5 species and 6 birds in total. Disappointing from the birdwatching point of view but accurately recorded on-line.
10 - 11 today, Green Woodpeckers, Jays - allsorts. I have a suspicion that our local Red Kite may well have been around yesterday. They're better than a volcanic ash cloud for stopping flying!

Hi,
I did 10-11 this morning but a little quiet. They are all out in the fields at present due to the mild winter. However, I did get 2 Redwings which I am pleased about.

Steve
Let not your heart be troubled
Had to keep shoo-ing the neighbour's cat Noola away, but when I gave up and she stayed, the birds seemed to come in droves. I think they do it to mock her!! She's not really a threat, just an appreciator.
Sat down to breakfast this morning before going out. 2 Blue tits, one robin, few sparrows, usual starlings, great tit, and collard doves. This aftenoon BGBW 12:30 to 1:30 and we get!!!!
11 starlings, 1 Robin, 1 Sparrow and 2 collard doves (for all of 2 seconds). Do birds have a sixth sense or is it wrong time of day?
Did mine this morning between 10-11am. Should have done it now, as female blackcap just arrived.

Did mine yesterday morning. Unfortunately 5 neighbourhood cats ensured that my bird species count is down to just 3 pigeon, 1 blackbird and 1 robin.
